What Customers Are Saying
The Kobalt post hole digger received mixed reviews. Many customers found it well-designed and durable, with pointed metal tips, sturdy construction, and comfortable handles that made digging holes easier, especially in softer soils. However, some reported issues with its performance and durability, struggling in harder, rockier soil and experiencing broken or loose components after extended use. The overall consensus suggests the digger is a good option for softer soils, but may not be as effective in more demanding conditions.

Would RecommendI decided to try these hole diggers and have found them easier to use then traditional models, especially in deeper holes.
Great for deeper holes
Would RecommendThe unique double pivot arrangement yields less width when the jaws are closed, so it's easier to get deeper into the hole than with conventional posthole diggers. It's a great design & very easy to use.
Kobalt Post Hole Digger
Would RecommendReally nice tool. After 32 - 3ft deep holes in heavy clay, it's still in one piece and will surely last for another 32 holes. I like the clamshell closing action because it cuts down on how wide the handles need to be opened, but 3ft is still close to the depth limit of the tool. Digging in heavy clay by hand is a real workout for the tool (and the person doing the digging). I was worn out by the second day of digging but the digger was ready for another hole. I'm just glad there were only 32 to...
Outstanding Post Hole Digger
Would RecommendThe design of this post hole digger makes it so much easier to dig holes. I am very pleased with this purchase.
Diggers
Would RecommendGot tired of broken wooden handles so this metal post hole digger was a purchase I should have done long ago rather than buying the cheaper wooden ones.
Very Massive - very Heavy - very good
Would RecommendBest post hole digger I've had: Built in Finger guards to prevent smashed fingers, Extra long handles, padded grip, solid steel, sharp mildly pointed tip, great double scissor design has blades opening almost parallel. Only Problems: Must be strong, this thing is heavy! great for downward momentum to penetrate hard clay but wears you out lifting out of hole. Also: put together with bolts too tight - just loosen them a bit so its not too stiff to open.
Good choice
Would RecommendAlthough I had some misgivings having read the reviews of others that this model breaks often, I decided to try it, liking the ergonomic design and secure in the knowledge of the lifetime warranty. This model turned out to be surprisingly effective. I liked the pointed tips and the extra leverage provided by the model's design. It felt secure to work with. I would not have tried to pry out stones with it, however. I did raise some HUGE pieces of Kentucky limestone out of the sticky Kentucky clay...
Worth every penny....
Would RecommendI only need to dig a post hole occasionally (kids' swing set, mailbox post), and up until now have made do with a spade and my hands to scoop out the soil as the hole became too deep for the shovel to bring it up. I'm putting up another swing set this week, and although I only needed to dig 4 holes for poured concrete footings decided to invest in a post hole digger. I'm not sure what all the negative reviews on this are about, maybe these folks needed to rent a powered auger? This tool worked g...
Decent Tool
Would RecommendAs others have said this new take on an old design makes the job easier, I won't complain about the design itself as I would take this type of post hole digger any day of the week over the traditional style... BUT, the handles as many have said are a week design point... I owned this for about a year now, only used it for one hole the first year and it sat around and collected dust, we recently moved and I'm putting up hundreds linear feet of field fence now, all holes are 36" deep, so it's gett...
Awesome
Would RecommendThe extra 8 bucks to buy this is totally worth it..easy for me to use. I did not need any help to get 6 holes dug over 2 ft in a few mins...love them
Just dig
Would RecommendWell if you have dug many post holes these are better post hole diggers, but no matter how you look at it it is still work
Nice redesign
Would RecommendHeavy duty should last a lifetime - redesigned shovel ends are narrower so you can dig deeper easier.
better than kobalts wood handle posthole diggers, which broke as soon as they hit the ground.
Great Product
Would RecommendEasy to grip, great design. I live in Missouri, which grows rocks, digging post holes by hand is by no means an easy task, but these post hole diggers did a great job digging 2 foot deep holes. A bit on the pricey side for my taste, but then again you get what you pay for these days. The handles didn't show any sign of weakness while digging through the rough ground like I have experienced with wood handle diggers.
Gets better as the hole gets deeper
Would RecommendThis is an interesting new twist on an old design. The second pivot point reduces the amount you need to move the handles to close the jaws, this helps in a deep hole because the jaws close before the handles hit the sides of what you just dug out. But it also reduces the mechanical advantage so it's requires more strength to close the jaws if your digging in clay, rock, compacted soil... We found our old single pivot easier for shallow work and to get through grass and hard soil and then went...
works like a charm
Would RecommendI had 3 holes did dig, and it did it in record time.
Glad the Reviews Were Right!
Would RecommendNeeded to dig a hole for the mailbox post. After searching and reading reviews this seemed to be what was available in the area that was easiest to use. (I remember the other style being a pain!) This did the job and the design made digging a lot easier! It also made getting the dirt out of the hole simple as opposed the the old style. The description claimed a 40% ease of use but it seemed like more. I wish it cost less but it's worth paying the extra for reduction in labor. Most people shou...
