What Customers Are Saying
The Kobalt post hole digger received mixed reviews. Many customers found it well-designed and durable, with pointed metal tips, sturdy construction, and comfortable handles that made digging holes easier, especially in softer soils. However, some reported issues with its performance and durability, struggling in harder, rockier soil and experiencing broken or loose components after extended use. The overall consensus suggests the digger is a good option for softer soils, but may not be as effective in more demanding conditions.

Would Not RecommendFor Las Vegas terrain, these post hole diggers doe not work well in the rocky earth. Figuring the price of the tools, one would expect sharper edges. They are extremely dull. This product is not worth the price. jjr
Good design, not as flimsy as others I have used
Would Recommendthey work good for digging in hard clay or soft sand. The blades come together better than mosi other post hole diggers to get out even the small scoups of dirt. I've dug about 25 holes and dont have any complaints.
Poorly made product
Would Not RecommendI dug 7 holes and on my 8th hole the handle broke. Bringing it back to see if a better product is available.
Great Product
Would RecommendI installed 90 lf of vinyl fencing with an average depth of 32' per hole. Did the job it was designed for very well. Could not use gas auger because of roots, and utility lines, but with this post hole digger, an axe, chainsaw, snips, and patience got job done. Fence looks great.
Best post hole digger I've used
Would RecommendI've dug lots of holes using spades, shovels and a couple of kinds of post hole diggers. The 'extra' pivot point helps to make this digger easier to use than the traditional style. The bumpers on the handles keep the handles apart so the user cannot smash fingers between the handles. In a few minutes it dug a 24" deep hole in very high clay-content soil. A similar hole dug in the same soil with a spade took a lot more energy and closer to half an hour to dig.
VERY Durable
Would RecommendVERY Durable, I was digging through a lot of rock and it worked like a charm.
Don't buy if you have clay. The handle bent on first hole! But Lowes returned my money no problem
Not Durable
Would Not RecommendBreaks easily and it was difficult to return. Product looks nice, but didnt last.
29" Dig Ez Post Hole Digger
Would RecommendThese diggers work Great but it is ashame after only 30 holes the handle broke off. It appears to be a slight design flaw in calculating the stress areas which could be easily fixed by adding stronger handles. I really like the product so maybe Kobalt can fix the handle issue as it appears I am not the only one who has broken them.
Worth Every Penney
Would RecommendThis is a fine product and well worth every bit of the 40 some dollars that I paid for it........ the scissor action closes the jaws completely allowing it to pick up all the dirt in the bottom of the hole unlike the old fashioned models.
This is an awesome tool!
Would RecommendAfter struggling to dig 12"-16" with a borrowed post hole digger, I remembered seeing this one with the scissor action and I figured it would make my 28" holes easier to dig....I'm here to tell you this was the best $40 I could have thrown at a yard tool! The scissor action allows you to keep digging deeper without making the top of the hole three feet across from pulling the handles apart to grip the dirt at the bottom of the hole! And I was impressed with how well this was built....I was able ...
Post hole digger for loose sandy soil
Would RecommendFirst I am a professional fence contractor and have these on my truck. The mechanism that closes the jaws makes this the only post hole digger I have that can remove very sandy soil a post hole. Other diggers jaws don't come together enough to keep the loose stuff from slipping out of the jaws when you are trying to lift dirt out of the holes. They are the right tool for the job when you are digging in that type of soil. Because of the unique hinged design of the handle/jaws they are not as st...
save your money
Would Not RecommendI broke the handle after digging about 12 inches. I returned it (thanks Lowes) and purchased a cheaper model with wood handles and had no issues.
Don't change a thing
Would RecommendI'm older then most the dirt I've been digging and have worn out my share of post hole diggers. Now that I won't be digging many post holes with the time I have left it's sad that I saved the best for the last.
Good post hole digger
Would RecommendPlus -- lightweight, not a lot motion for moving handles, works well in tight spaces, digs down well with pointed flutes and best of all it brings up most of the dirt when closed Minus -- needs a little more weight for deeper penetration and has problems breaking up top layers when grass is present.
