Ratings & Reviews for Utilitech 15 -Amps 120-volt Indoor Programmable Digital Lighting Timer
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Customers are divided on this in-wall timer. Many praise its programming flexibility, accurate scheduling, backup battery, and straightforward installation once powered up. However, a substantial group reports frustrating power-up delays—ranging from 15 minutes to several hours—with some units never activating despite correct wiring. Reviewers frequently note instructions fail to mention the charging requirement, creating confusion and distrust. Those who overcome the initial hurdle find the device reliable and energy-efficient, though some experience outright failure or compatibility issues with older wiring setups.

Just ok
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The utilitech SunSmart in wall 7-day digital timer is quite involved to install. It seems very durable and the programming is a little bit involved also. I personally would just use one of the ones you just plug into your outlet.

Does not work!!
Would Not RecommendWired up correctly for single pole application, but unit does not power up. I bought two of these timers and neither one works.
Instructions are not available online, bummer!
Would Not RecommendAlan, thank you for your review. If you give us a call, we can email you a PDF of the instruction manual for your to keep. At your earliest convenie...

LEGIBLE INSTRUCTIONS
Would Not RecommendThere is a complete set of installation and programming instructions IN SPANISH, but in the southern United States that is not helpful. Lowe's is useless offering ZERO HELP.

No more utilitech products for me
Would Not RecommendI'm having similar complaints as in the other reviews. Will not recommend this product. Lowes needs to do better with products they intend to sell.

Installed, but won't program or turn on/off light
Would Not RecommendThe Utilitech Model 81670 timer is installed, but the programming instructions are difficult to follow. I have no way to confirm what I am doing wrong. The light is not turning on/off. I also can't find any credible information. The phone number for tech support on another review does not recognize verbal answers.
Can be programmed with some ease
Would RecommendThis is a good timer. It's worth reading instructions, because they have step by step instructions. Display is big enough to read settings. Though, pushebuttons are a bit sensible, you would get used to. Set your local the time and then set on times and set off times on each program. Comes with enough programs for a week, and a random feature when you are on vacation. Connections are also explained on the instructions.

No power output
Would Not RecommendWent to install as a single pole installation for recessed outdoor lighting. Followed instructions, but when switched to on in manual mode or as a program set up for my area there is less than 1VAC output. Ended up installing a Honeywell brand timer in its place.

No electrical drawing
Would Not RecommendI purchased multiple pieces for 3 -way installation. the electrical diagram for connecting the wires is terrible. Can not figure out hoe the the travelers needs to be connected to jumper wire. It should be electrical diagram ( look for lutron instruction to learn how to write and give instruction to installer). Your diagram is just small all black and it is not electrical with over complicated numbers . I have to return all just because of terrible instruction. the good thing about this timer...

Dependable, well-built unit
Would RecommendThis, or a similar model purchased years ago was returned because this reviewer did not understand the programming instructions. The instructions for this #81670 seem better but fail to clearly delineate the interactions between the "set" and "programs" buttons. And it is not intuitive. Patience paid off this time in achieving 7-day Dusk/Dawn. I perceived it as more complicated than it is. Once the date, time, and zone (not time zone) are set, then only the 2 settings of "Prog 1 (on & off) are n...
