[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] ever try growing grass under a pine tree, not fun. it always dies or grows a fraction of the seed you put down. I was pretty impressed that this seed actually grew. I'm hoping it stays strong. right now the grass is very small, too small for mowing but it looks promising.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our backyard is shaded almost all day, it's sandy & full of weeds. We tilled up the ground, raked it, and spread these grass seeds only for there to be 2 weeks of flash floods. Surprisingly, it didn't all wash away! We've already got new growth and I can't wait to see what it looks like as more time goes by. I might get another bag to touch up spots where the storms washed away the seeds, but with daily watering I think it will fill in nicely. ...

I'll try again in May

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I planted grass seed a few weeks ago but I think it was still too cold out and nothing really grew. I saved about half the bag and will try again in a couple weeks. I liked that it comes with bright green fertilizer mixed in so you can easily see where you have placed the seed. Hopefully it will grow in warmer weather.

Will grow on shady areas and cool weather

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I also have the "Pacific Northwest" seeds. I use these to overseed thinning spots in our lawn. Very easy to use, I just mow, rake, and clean the area I want to sprinkle the seeds on. They are great for cool weather and will grow even with a little sun. The "Dense Shade" seeds are better on perpetually shaded areas of the lawn. I wish the bag is resealable though.

Best For Outdoor Seeding

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this to try and plant in my planters to protect the roots of some of my plants from getting too hot in the summer. It will grow well, however it is important to follow the watering instructions during the initial seeding phase to guarantee you will get the best results. Some of the planters I put them in I did not keep them moist enough as directed, although in other planters that had more ideal moisture conditions are growing well!

Growing well

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] There is so much shade in my yard that I've never been able to successfully grow grass. I knew that once I saw the opportunity to try this grass seed for testing purposes from Influenster, I had to give it a chance. It has been a couple of weeks now since I seeded and it's starting to grow in quite a bit. I'm very happy with it so far.

Two weeks in, not much grass

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got the Dense Shade version in hopes that maybe I could finally get grass to grow under the overhang of my porch roof. For starters, it doesn't cover much area (bag says 750sf, but I'd say closer to 400 if you do it right). And after a good mix of rain and warm weather, only about 1/4 of the area has any grass sprouting. I'll keep waiting and hoping.

Great product as advertised

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the Smart Seed Dense Shade as overseeding the area under our big tree which blocks the sun for great part of the day. I'm already seen result with grass growth and spot starting to fill. The product is working as advertised and I am planning on overseeding every spring to keep my grass healthy without needing to take my tree out.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used Pennington grass seed before and it's worked really well and quickly. And also good coverage. I have never used the smart seed product so I am very excited to try this product out and skip some steps in the grass planting process!

Great for shady areas

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This grass + fertilizer mix is great for areas getting only 2 to 6 hours of sun. It takes a little while to grow (8-16 days) and doesn't require as much water as usual grass. There is no geographic area restriction for this seed!

Under the Trampoline!

Shady grass patch grows

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We struggled to get grass to grow in a very shaded, damp area of our yard. It took most of the summer to get the seedlings to grow and patch in areas but the Pennington grass worked and the spot is looking much improved!

Smart seed

I really like that this formula not only brings seeds but it contains fertilizer which feeds the grass to help with growth. a week and a half after planting and I have already seen the sprouts peeking through. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have some large pine trees in the back of our yard that make it super shady. This dense shade is perfect for the shady spot under the big trees. I felt the price was reasonable!

I see grass!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We used this in our front yard, we have a huge tree that covers a large part that never gets sun. We started to see results only a few days after planting. I would recommend this seed for shaded areas.
