Ratings & Reviews for Pennington SMART SEED 7-lb Mixture/Blend Grass Seed

Actually works

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was doubtful these seeds would work, considering I've tried about 100 different kinds that are marketed for shade. My yard is covered in trees and shade, but I still wanted a nice lawn and this product delivers. The instructions are simple and it doesn't take long to start seeing growth.

Good product grows quickly

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried thus seed right after I received the package and we had 6 inches of snow right afterward. I raked up after the storm and applied more seed which the birds then ate. I applied more and now that we have had some warm weather and lots of rain it is starting to grow. I'm hopeful that I will have some new green grass shortly.

new growth!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had several bare patches in our yard (thanks to our dog ;) ). We used this and definitely are beginning to see new growth. I didn't have high hopes, but this trial is working well. It's a little pricey, but it's worth it now that I see it working!

Good Seed for additional coverage.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the Pennington Smart Seed Dense Shade Mix to fill in a rough area that has had trouble growing the past. I did not have enough for full coverage of the area so I also leveraged some leftover competitor's seed from the previous year. Overall the Smart Seed area grew well, as did the other seeds. The area does not get significant sun (2-3 hrs a day) so some seed has had issues sprouting appropriately. Following the instructions on the pack...

I am beyond impressed!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our large dog did quite a number on the yard right in front of our house this winter. It was literally a mudhole. And the fact that no sun hit that spot except for about five minutes after 4:00 p.m. every day didn't help with the loss of grass and expansion of mud. Enter my newest weapon: Pennington Smart Seed Dense Shade Mix. I thought that I'd have to add prayer to the mix of watering to get this seed to grow, but it was extraordinary without...

Very Little Grass Grew

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I would say this product is ok. It didn't seem to grow in the time that it said it would. I don't know if I would buy this again.

Yard looks very nice

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pennington Smart Seed Dense Shade Mix:: Had a bare spot in yard for three years. Could never get grass seed to grow. Applied to bare area and over seeded with the remaining seed. Yard looks great. Not all the seed germinated in the bare areas, but enough has taken hold to fill in allot of it. Will use again this fall.

Quick & Easy!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have several areas in our back yard that are shady and have no grass growing, so this Spring was the perfect time to try this grass seed. I really like how easy it is to use and the quality is fantastic compared to others we have tried. After about a 10 days I could see the grass already starting to grow in those shady spots under the mature trees. I love that it requires less water and has a fertilizer coating on each seed for quick, hardy ...

Seed works great - even in heavily shaded areas

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This seed works great! I used it on a bare spot that hasn't been able to grow grass since I've lived in my house the past 7 yrs. It was always just dirt, no matter what I tried. I followed the directions and prepped the area. Grass started to sprout in about 1.5-2 weeks or so. Growing nicely so far. It's been about 3-4 weeks.

Best grass seaf ever

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The best grass sead ever. Grows quick and filled in better than others. Will be buying more to finish the yard.

Does not grow

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I spread this seed out on the numerous bare spots in my yard a few weeks ago. I have made sure that that those areas have been watered but I have not seen any growth. I'm glad that I received this trial because if I had purchased this seed from a store, I would be very disappointed.

Mixed results

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used Pennington seed products for years, and always have positive results. I tried the Dense Shade seed to repair some sparse areas under a maple tree in my yard. I'm not sure if the weather or my soil conditions played a role or not, but I did not see an improvement using this product. Given my history with Pennington products, I am more inclined to believe the problem was something other than their seed. I will give it another chance.

Great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have been having a hard time replacing the grass next to our porch. This seed was easy to use. No issues in spreading it out. So far it seems to be growing great. Can't wait to see once everything is fully grown.

My grass looks amazing!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had some bare spots in my grass, but this evened it out and makes it look so amazing!!

Great protduct for shaded areas

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It look me a while to test this product. The area I live in is constantly raining so I had to wait a while to get all the moss out and dethatch the grass area. When I had my area preps I spreaded the seeds and covered with peat moss. Within 5 days I started seeing sprouts. I was pretty amazed. By day 15 my grass was thick and lushes.

Super excited!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this as a free sample and am super excited to see how well it works. I only recently spread some seeds since I was awaiting rain. It was easy to spread and actually covered more area than I imagined. I'm super excited to see how fast it grows and if/how long the grass lasts.

Great idea

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The product was a great idea, but seed never germinated, even though I followed instructions

Excellent grass seed!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I don't know a lot about grass seed, except that whenever I spread it on a bare patch in my yard, it seems like there's a VERY HIGH number of seeds that just FAIL. Well, this seed doesn't fail! It makes lovely little grass seedlings in the hardest-to-grow parts of my yard. I will absolutely buy it again!

Seed takes hold fast

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used many types of shade mix in the past. None of them sprouted fast enough to not be washed away by a summer rain storm. This stuff sprouted and grew roots within 10 days. I avoided having to reseed my lawn.

Proven results

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thick, lush, green grass growing under the dense shade of my magnolia tree, FINALLY. Thank you Pennington.
