I wanted every bedroom detector 10" in and centered to the door frame, and one spot happened to be on a stud, so I got this! Bummer though, it didn't accommodate the thickness of the ceiling joist. I think this would be an amazing box *IF* it had an extra 1/8-1/4" of wiggle room and came with shims - that would account for irregularities in joists while still providing a secure hold.
