Ratings & Reviews for Hubbell RACO Galvanized steel New work Ceiling fan Electrical Box
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
The ceiling fan box is a sturdy, well-designed product that provides a solid mounting platform. It features a solid, galvanized metal construction that can support heavy ceiling fans up to 150 lbs. The angled mounting holes allow the box to be securely attached to ceiling joists at an angle, and it includes all necessary hardware for easy installation. While some minor issues were mentioned, such as the need to shim the mounting bracket and the challenge of fitting the wire grommet, the overall consensus is that this is a high-quality, reliable ceiling fan box that makes the installation process much easier and safer.

Based on all the other reviews here I expected this box to work well. I got it to work but it was a much bigger hassle than expected. I was doing an old work installation of a fan where a light fixture used to be. My main issue is they give you about a 5-10 degree screw angle into the bracket on the joist/stud to work with... I have a very small cordless drill but I still had a difficult time getting the screws in good & straight. Do they understand that I can't fit my whole drill into the dryw...
As expected.
Would RecommendDoesn't feel cheap. Does what it needs to do. Everything is in the box.

Angled mounting holes are a plus
Would RecommendI like how the box accounts for the mounting screws being screwed at an angle with mounting holes at an angle to match. I used other boxes where this was not the case and the screws were not secured flush with the box.

Heavy Duty box
Great product. Very strong ceiling box replacement; much better than the ones that rely on the drywall for support.

Best fan box out there
Would RecommendPro electrician here. I buy 99.9% of my materials from an electrical supply house. I still go to Lowe's for these. Superior product compared to everything else I've tried. Pricey but worth it. My 275 pound self can hang from it and it won't even bend.
Thank you for the positive feedback about the RACO fan box and the 5-star rating.

Good, but not perfect
Would RecommendI had to install a new ceiling fan and needed a new deep box for it. This one did the trick, but getting the holes in the top of the box to line up with the threads in the bracket was not happening. Fortunately, I was able to use a 1/4' bit & my drill to slightly enlarge the hole in the box. The other issue is with the small flange that protrudes from the bracket. I had to file that down in order to get the box in the correct orientation to secure the box to the bracket.

Not what was pictured
Would Not RecommendDrove all the way to Lowe's only to find out the product wasn't as seen here. The bracket was welded to the unit. The item sku was the same, so either it's old stock or someone screwed up with ordering the correct stock.
Thank you for your review however RACO does not make a fan box that has a bracket welded to to it.

Broken screw
Would Not RecommendI probably applied too much torque, but the third screw broke when I was installed the bracket. Now I have a two screw holes and a 3/4 screw in my joist and I need to figure out what to do. Probably get a different product with a different screw layout.
Pre-drilling of holes may be necessary and without drilling, a knot in the joist may lead to breaking the lag screws. If you would like further assis...

Tricky assembly and not square
I noticed that some other reviewers stated the box holes did not align with the bracket holes. I experienced the same thing with the bracket in the old work position - a notched piece of metal kept the holes from lining up when the box is tight against the bracket. The trick was to start the screws while the box was lose against the bracket, then tighten the screws to pull the box in. It was confusing how this was going to work until I figured that out. Also, the box was not parallel to the ...
The angle is intended to allow for the drill to be below the drywall and most drivers would use an extended bit holder, instead of a short bit direct...
