Great ice, easy to use once set up

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works extremely well. Takes some time to correctly set up and sanitize (and rinse!), but once it's done it makes the best ice in 10 minutes flat. Less noisy than I thought it would be based on the other reviews -- yes you can hear it, but it's quieter than an air fryer.

Quieter than original

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Day 1 of having my new ice maker. Comparing it to the original Opal, I will say that this one is much quieter. Which owls what I wanted. After 5 years, our original finally stopped making ice but not before it started making horrible loud noises. I like that this newer model is much quieter and a bit smaller. However, the downside seems to be that the water reservoir is smaller. Day one and the tank is already half empty.

Won’t last

Machine broke around two years ago monthly maintenance/cleaning was done. Still did not last. No help from the company. Huge expense with no fix or service.

Capacity is something I really wanted.

Capacity/ Its good but will be better when I get the side tank and clip. Why was it not included? Model: XP1023SW1SS Serial: HZ003615 Production: seems ok.

So far the ice machine is doing great. Ice is really small. As far as the instructions i think they could be a little more detailed. But over all seems good

Loud bangs

My son bought this for me for a Christmas present. Thinking since it was GE and that it was expensive that it would be a good reliable product. After 1 year it got really loud and looked it up and the compressor has to be thawed out. I have to do this weekly along with cleaning. Now after a year and a half it now just hums with no ice. This is a piece of junk and definitely not worth the money.

Love my OPAL

This is the third Opal Nugget Ice Maker. I absolutely love it! We purchased a different brand/model thinking they were all the same, but NOPE—we ended up purchasing another Opal.

Nice big unit, less refilling water

We setup our new GE ice maker today & we love it, no more refilling ALL THE TIME! This side tank is awesome, & this unit runs ridiculously quiet. Very happy with our purchase!

Great ice. Not very friendly.

We love the ice and really can't live without it. Unfortunately, it's a really complicated relationship with the machine. This is our second one in three years because the previous one began to conk out. Did everything I could to save it, but it just wouldn't cooperate. For the new one, it was a great first couple of weeks but then the scale inhibiting filter disrupted the water flow, causing the machine to constantly say that it needed more water when it had plenty. New unit noise

New unit makes a lot of noise like squealing randomly, clicking and popping.

Squeeking always comes back after cleaning

We have had this icemaker for eight months, and I bought the products to clean it whenever it tells me to clean. Right after I cleaned it, it goes back to its squeaking sound. I have tried everything to get rid of the sound, but nothing has worked. I am very displeased with how much time I have put into trying to get it working again.

Metal dust

I received this ice maker from a dear friend that passed away soon after in a car accident. Within a month of using it it began making an awful screeching and grinding noise. I would unplug it and reset the unit at which time it would make one bucket of ice before the screeching would resume again. This has gotten to the point that there seems to be metal dust in the water bin causing me to no longer use the unit . For the money that was spent I would expect much better quality than this

Great Appliance

Wonderful Appliance from GE. No startup issues. No problem with noise. Ice is definitely chewy and great for drinks.
