Sleek Design

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very sleek design, I was worried it would take up too much space on my counters but it looks so nice and matches all my appliances. Instructions to set up were easy and the ice started to come out very fast. The little scooper magnet is a nice touch! Easy to use and set up and I love having the small ice right there.

Much better than freezer ice!!

Solid ice machine. Perfect size for our family of four. We use distilled water and the ice always tastes great. The machine routinely requests that you sanitize and descale, so that gets a little old. Not hard to do just takes some time. You will need to purchase extra filters and descaling powder from GE.

Breakdown

This is the second one I’ve had and has went out on us. It’s stuck in defrost mode and just makes noise. Best ice but machine doesn’t last especially for the price

I am on my 3rd unit, because the first 2 stared making extreme noise after 1-3 weeks

Great Ice Maker bit lots of parts

This model is quite a bit better than the older model as it offers the metal scooper with holder. There is the addition of an air filter as well as a seperate replaceable internal filter which I’m assuming will help with the longevity of the unit. I love the appliance but not looking forward to locating the replacement filters.

I love the ice size.

This ice maker is still making a whining noise right after cleaning and descaling. I find that really annoying.

Very loud!

I purchased this ice maker and received it 5/22/26. I has worked fine with perfect ice! Problem on day 2. It is so loud! Something is wrong on the inside. When researching issues it says buildup, tube blockage and hard water. That cannot be the reason since its brand new. I did the initial cleaning as the book stated, turned on and it started working fine. But after 2 days there is no way it could be build up. At first the noise lasted about a minute, now as I write this we are going on 10 min...

Awful Started screaming after installed in two day

I’ll be returning it. It makes a lot of screaming noise.

Not as good as the older model

This machine makes more slush than ice. It also starts at random times making an excruciating loud noise for a long time. We have to unplug it in order for it to stop. Definitely returning it.

Best possible ice you can have at home.

We waited a long time for this ice maker to come through development and into production and it was well worth the wait. The quality of the ice made with this product is absolutely outstanding. This is the second unit we’ve owned as our original one died after 4 years of continuous service. We now can’t live without one and our whole family thoroughly enjoys it daily.

Great ice maker

makes ice very quickly. i wish it had a setting for cubed but it is an amazing ice maker and it is more quest then alot of the other options ive had before. the self cleaning is very good as el and the ice is very consistent nothing to big or small. it is a bit big the size of it for my bar but we mad it work.

It has been great to have ice all day long. I use it at school and all my coworkers love to come get ice.

Opal review

On my second one as the first opal I received only lasted 60 days before it starting screaming whenever it turned on. Was replaced under warranty. Have had my second unit less than 30 days. Is working but didn’t even use for 3 days when the sanitize light came on. After 2 weeks it says it needs a new filter. I have a water softener and osmosis system so unsure why the unit constantly needs to be sanitized and a new filter so soon. I think the manufacturer needs to work the kinks out of the...

So far its ok. The ice doesnt seem as hard as the last one we had .. its more of a slushy consistency

New Features

This unit is my third GE countertop ice maker. The unit appears to have many upgrades. The scale inhibiting filter, air filter, and enhanced control panel. I use nothing but distilled water in my units and follow the cleaning instructions on a monthly basis. We will see if this unit makes it more than 18 months.

disappointed

The design and performance was really complete in the beginning. However, the lighted instructions on the front were always malfunctioning. (ex. when it says needs more water, the reserve tank was full. Then when says making ice was not. Says to sanitize when I sanitized a week before as the instructions said with new filter. The capacity and noise level was just fine for us.

Great chewable ice!

This is my second opal ice maker, the first one was destroyed along with my house by a tornado. I really love my opal ice maker! Makes the best chewable ice, better than Sonic's ice. I noticed my second unit has some improvements, glad to see them. The only negative I can say is if you don't have counter space to place it by a sink to drain it, be prepared to pick it up, it's a bit heavy.
