Meeting a need

Would Recommend

Our porch stairs are over 10 years old and the flat caps we had are splitting and cracking, since they were nailed in the middle. These caps will be easy to paint and install, and will last longer than what we have, so they won't be nailed. Because we can get 5% off our charge purchases, the cost was also a factor. Works all the way around.

Nice top cap for a 6X6 post.

Would Recommend

I found the only post cap that did not have a crack in the wood from being treated and the wood drying out. So far since I've had it in the house it hasn't crack yet. Once the treated wood drys out I will stain it to match the 6X6 post I have made for my mail box. I have rated this cap average since I don't know whether it will crack in a few months from now or how long it will stay in decent condition when exposed to the outside elements.

Terrible quality

Would Not Recommend

These ornamental caps look nice in the store, but the first time they are exposed to the elemnts, the top begins to warp and flares up on two sides. This was consistent across all 16 caps purchased. The tops are held to each side moulding with only two small staples which aren't at all sufficient to counter the warping of the top piece. If you buy these caps, you should add glue and finishing mails around the sides to keep them down. In the end, they are not worth the price paid.

It Does the Job

Would Recommend

This cap provides an inexpensive way to cover the end of 4 x 4 posts. I built a fence around our pool and this was a cost-effective way to dress it up. The adhesive tab that's included is not sufficient to secure the cap so you will want to use some supplemental adhesive or finishing nails to make sure it stays where you want it.

Deck Cap

Would Recommend

Recommend this as an in store purchase. Many different wood grain quality, wood color differences, and texture differences when making the selection among the store stock. The double sided adhesive strip is not helpful to actually attach the cap to a post. Wood glue or another material to secure them will be required.

Almost What I Wanted

Would Not Recommend

Upsides: Looks nice, easy to slap on to 4x4 posts. Downsides: Price feels about $2 too expense per unit. It's not a big deal until you buy a bunch of them! Also, the adhesive pad that comes with them is totally useless. You'll want some glue.

Fantastic!

We purchased 14 of these and sealed them with the same finish that was put on our new cedar fence. They are treated wood, but once the sealer was on, they blended in with the cedar and you could not tell the difference the treated wood and the cedar.
