Coleman quality, runs great. Slight flicker but not bad.

I love this lantern

I love this lantern. With its huge number 11 mantel this thing really puts out the light, it will light up the whole camp. Only down side to the mantel is, it isn't available everywhere. So pick up several extras when you buy this. I like fiddling around with things and because of the preheat procedure it makes this lantern even more enjoyable. I have several other kerosene products, like stoves, heaters and flat wick lanterns so having the lantern run off the same fuel is convenient.

This Lantern works very well puts out huge amounts of bright light super easy to get started. It’s a Coleman !

639 Kerosene Lantern

I own several Coleman white gas lanterns. This is my first kerosene lantern. The start up and shut down or slightly different and there is a slight odor of the kerosene during those periods of time, but otherwise it burns very clean, odorless, and bright. Kerosene is easy to come by. The product quality is solid and for the most part made in Wichita which I like. I’m happy.

Very good lamp

In Germany, all power plants will be shut down by 2030. It happens again and again that the power goes out. Nuremberg, Berlin 2020. There were defective ones in winter. This lamp can heat in an emergency and makes good light

Affordable, Durable, and VERY bright

I love the fact that Coleman still produces a Kerosene fueled lantern. I have one of these 639C's and a 200A from yesteryear that I converted to run on Kerosene. These Kerosene lanterns really produce a lot of light and Kerosene is easy to find as most gas stations sell it. It is also less volatile than unleaded gas or camp fuel.

Very nice lamp

I bought it a month ago. I've never known before about such a thing. I used kerosene lamps before, but they were simple flat-wick lamps. The first what I want to say about this lantern, it is really bright! Now I use it in our old tiny country house, where we come on weekends. There isn't electricity in the house, and earlier we used flat-wick kerosene lamps and LED flashlights. Great lantern, very bright!

I now have two of these and will probably end up with one or two more. They are economical to run and very bright.

I love the bright light, adjustability, you do need to carry a small bottle of fuel alcohol to get it started, this burns kerosene cleanly, without the smell I expected

Good lantern

Have used this lantern several years an have run gallons of K1 thru it. Very bright, and puts out a ton of Heat. Very little smell once you get her up to speed..Have replaced the generator once. Tip: do not use drug store alcohol to pre heat. Smokes and smells very bad. I highly recommend “ heat” in yellow plastic bottle fo pre heat. Heat in red bottle does not work well. Available at gas stations and big box stores.

Worth every penny of the purchase price!

Awesome that Coleman is still making a kerosene lantern! The kerosene powered 639 Series was first introduced in 1970, so you know it's going to be dependable! Very bright and easy to light once you understand the start-up process. I bought this for my motorhome camping as it is safer to transport kerosene than white gas (it takes a much higher temperature to ignite kerosene) and kerosene has a much longer storage life vs. white gas. Old School Reliability

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased this lantern to add to my collection of coleman lanterns and found it to be a very good lantern. It is very easy to light, and I always feel safer using kerosene vs coleman fuel. This lantern puts out a great amount of light to light up your camp. This lantern is very stout so I expect it to last a lifetime if properly taken care of. Good job Coleman!
