Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Customers are divided on this trimmer. Many praise its lightweight design, powerful cutting performance on thick weeds and grass, and easy switching between trimming and edging modes. However, a substantial portion report severe auto-feed line system failures—the mechanism frequently jams, stops working, or requires manual rewind every few minutes. Several users experienced recurring issues even after exchanging units, suggesting a design flaw. Some note the spool housing melts or loosens over time, making repairs difficult. A few mention excessive line consumption and cord management challenges. Despite these concerns, many appreciate the corded electric design for consistent power and reliability compared to gas models.

Would Not RecommendI purchased mine about 2 years ago and as every one else, there aew nothing but problems when trimming. Both my wife and I have had to stop trimming and respool the trimmer line. I had a replacement shipped to me as the guard broke in two, so I called and purchased a new guard. About a week after I received the new guard, I received a new replacement trimmer of the same type. Have not used it yet but since we have a large back yard and medium sized front, I think we will use both. B&D need...

Meets power expectations
Would RecommendI prefer to use a powerful trimmer, and this model satisfies that with 7.5 amps.

Less than 3 months
Would Not RecommendI bought this trimmer 3 months ago and I am not completely satisfied. The string-feed feeds the string not too well. The cap for the string feed also does not stay on properly to the trimmer. The power is there but the frustrations of having to tape down the cap and having to restring the trimmer twice in each use is getting to the point where what black and decker advertises is not what the product represents.

About as good as previous B&D edgers
Would Not RecommendWell, this is not much different than b&d version x or y. Serviceable but certainly nothing great. My previous purchases have lasted about ~3 growing seasons before the motor starts emitting smoke... indicating that it is time to trash it. I suspect this version will be about the same. Line feed is sometimes good, sometimes bad, definitely inconsistent. Sometimes I can weed-whack the yard in 30 mins. When the linefeed misbehaves, this can easily take an hour as I constantly start/stop etc...

Fair not great
Would Not RecommendBought this TODAY to edge and weed whack my suburban home. Approx 1800sq ft house on typical subdivision lot. Ran out of line in the front yard!! I’m guessing Black and Decker tries to save a few pennies by not putting a full spool in the new machines. Disappointed. An easy fix for the company to correct this. Just not for me.

So easy, even the wife can use it.
Would RecommendBought it about a month ago. I haven't used it yet but the wife and daughter have and they love it. That says it all.

7.5 amp trimmer
Purchased trimmer last month. So far I have been happy with it. I have a large yard and half way thru trmming, my old battery powered trimmer with two separate power packs would die. The electric cord is a pain but the cutting power and ability to do my whole yard on the same day is greatly. appreciated. My only concern is what I read about the trimmer having a short life, and possible problems with trimmer.

Nice unit.
Would RecommendI bought this unit about 6 - 8 weeks ago. I bought this to replace a a gas powered unit. I got tired of pulling to get the gas unit started. I got tired of the weight of the gas unit. The Black and Decker seems powerful enough for what I need it for. The only “con” I have the it is the power cord. I think it is better than the cordless units base on the reviews I have read. I think the pros outweigh the cons at this point.

The string cutter on the gaurd fell off causing the trimmer to spit out line. The part pllus shipping cost from black and decker is outrageous!
Like the features,not too heavy
Would RecommendDid my whole lawn (1 acre) without having to mess with the trimmer line.It was powerful enough to do both trimming and edging without any signs of over working itself.Did the job in half the time it usually does.

Good product improvement on the GH1000
Would RecommendThis string trimmer does what it is supposed and is easier to use than the GH1000 it replaces.

Uses to much line
Would Not RecommendI inherited a 14" Grasshog when my wife and I married. No matter what I do, the unit spits out line faster than I can rewind it. I wouldn't recommend any unit that has automatic feed.

I don't mind that it's electric. It cuts with a lot of power.

Lots of trimmer for the money.
Would RecommendGreat value for homeowner. The wheel is very useful for helping guide the trimmer while edging. Light weight and motor on the handle a great improvement over previous models. Great value.

Love it....except
Would RecommendI live this string trimmer especially when you have back issues...the wheel is perfect so it can rest on the ground & your not holding it in the air. The only problem I'm having is w/AFS. The string ends up melting to the rest of the roll, once that happens the rest of the roll you will have issues with. It will not feed properly after that happens :(
