What Customers Are Saying
The Woods Mini Lamppost Photocell has received mixed reviews. Some customers found it to be compact, easy to install, and functioning as expected to turn lights on and off. However, many reported issues with the product, including it failing within a short period, not turning on or off properly, and being overly or not sensitive enough to light changes. The quality and design also seem to have changed over time, with the newer versions being less reliable than the older models.

Would RecommendPurchased this to put on some accent lights in the back yard. Easy to install, helpful store employees, always shop Lowe's first.
Works great!
Would RecommendWe have a light on our back porch that we leave on all night. We've tried those screw-in electric eye sockets, but because of the housing they never get enough light to turn the light off during the day. I installed this electric eye next to the fixture and wired it in, and it works great. Light comes on at dusk and goes off at dawn, every time.
Performs absolutely perfect, can not complain.
Would RecommendAfter reading all the positive and negative reviews, the positives numbers aren't all that good. Despite the reviews I purchased one because of its size and test it, and it worked just fine. I then purchased 3 additional. All 4 have been in service for one full year and all have worked absolutely perfect. Maybe I just got lucky but I haven't found anything negative to say about this item. Its small compact size works great in a confined space. I Have a need for a 5th one and will not hesitate to...
Didn't want to buy complete new fixtures
Would RecommendWe have 3 soffit mounted lights on the back of the house. I wanted to put them on a timer but they are controlled from switches in two locations and Lowes did not have a timer for that on hand. I was looking at new fixtures when I was asked if I needed help. I explained what my intentions were and Dave asked my what my present fixtures looked like. I showed him some similar ones Lowes had and he said he had a suggestion, "Why not turn what you have into on at dusk - off at dawn lights?" He took ...
DOA
Would Not RecommendI needed a light sensor switch so I got this one. I decided to test it first -- good thing I did, it didn't work. Then I went online to check the reviews and yep, its junk. I will try to get something else from another manufacturer. Based on the mix of bad and good reviews I guess its hit or miss suggesting terrible QC.
poor quality
Would Not Recommendinstalled and worked for a week or so, now it is not working - lights on all the time, even under direct sunlight
Never could get it to work
Would Not RecommendCould not get it to work had to research wiring details. I wired it correctly but no go. Also there should be a wiring diagram included I mean it’s onlt three wires but it is a simple thing to include a diagram
Take the worry out of outside lights
Would RecommendI have lots of outside lights including architectural lighting and I got tired of forgetting to turn them off every morning. I installed the photocells is five locations. It did not require any extra wiring or boxes. 1 3/8" hole drilled in fixture, the cell mounts inside most fixtures with a watertight seal. I then installed see through guards on the indoor switches. Now my light come on every night and off every morning whether I am home or not.
Poor cold and wet weather performance
Would Not RecommendI purchased this because of its small size. I installed two of these sensors on our outdoor light fixtures by drilling small holes and mounting it inside. The first one failed after a couple of months exposed to the weather. The second one was under a porch roof and worked okay above 32 degrees F. If the temperature dropped, the light would not come on.
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on
Would Not RecommendMany years ago I bought a similarly cheap photocell rather than tie into the line of an existing high quality senser. Maybe worked a few hours or days. Two months ago installed this one for a friend—again only worked a few days. Skip the inexpensive trash and pay the extra $ for quality.
Awesome product and compact
Would RecommendI was looking for a mini photocell for a very long time and stumbled across one. Wow, it works fantastic. I purchased more than 10 of these for my home my vacation home and my mothers home. If you buy, you will not be disappointed. I’m not sure why others gave it such bad reviews, could of been user error. Setting up/installing was very easy. I had no issues.
Works great
Would RecommendIt works 100% better than their screw in socket model.
Don't waste your money
Would Not RecommendBought for the compact size. Simply put, it's junk. Worked a few months then stopped.
Don't dissmiss the reviews. It is total gargabe
Would Not RecommendWent through 2 of these within a year. I retrofitted into a wall-mount box under roof overhang to light up my back steps. I thought the first was a lemon (a one-off). Second one died within 4 months. At $10 a pop, I could have bought a decent integrated light. Save your hard earned money!!
Wish “0” was a option
Would Not RecommendThis is my first review I’ve posted to tell you to save your $10. Installed and would not come on at night. Only worked if u placed hand over sensor during the day then would shut off. Tried to contact Woods on their website waited a week no response went to Home Depot bought a Hampton Bay dusk to dawn sensor and works great. Hard to believe Lowes still sells this with all the bad reviews it has.
Great results!
Would RecommendDrilled base of two lights purchased elsewhere and slipped these little babies in snugly. Small size is key for retro-fitting. They've been working perfectly for about two months now. The style of lamp that I put these in is such that they are not covered completely and will not get wet. Not sure if that matters but if that's your situation I'd recommend these units every time. I have two more lamps to install and have plans to buy two more of these for that project.
DON'T BUY!
Would Not RecommendBeen through 3 in past two years. Low quality product that WILL FAIL QUICKLY!
Strike 2 and not taking a chance on 3
Would Not RecommendWired to control 2 led lights. Around 10 watts total. Lights just come on, then go off shortly after. This cycled repeated. Wired a second one and same thing happened. Guess I'll just go back to flipping the switch until I find a different brand.
