Diy Dropped my Utility Bills In 100 Year old home

I was insulating a 100 year old attic. This product made the home much more quiet and also dropped our heating bills . I'll see how the cooling bills are this summer, but I'm pretty sure the AC won't have to work as hard also. It was easy to install with the free loaned blower from Lowes and it is definitely a diy project, although wear a good n95 mask..It is dusty when installing. And the Lowes staff was very helpful loading in the warehouse.

My 5 star review is strictly for the insulation, not the machine. I mention the machine at the end, but let's just say they're not worth the effort. I used this stuff to go from R49 to R60 and it worked great. It fluffs easily and the 10% extra the company's calculator suggested ended up getting returned because I was over R60 everywhere I measured. I was in shorts and a t shirt and because this stuff isn't fiberglass, you don't itch at all. It kicks up dust and sticks to your sweaty skin, but...

Product good, packaging created some issues

Product itself is good and works as advertised. Issue was the packaging on some of the bales were not sealed very well and split open in transit, so I was unable to return them at the end of the job since I had a few leftover.

Good product and good price

While it does state the best way to apply is with a machine, I was able to break it up and add additional insulation to my attic. I like that it wasn't had to break it up.

Better than old version

This version of the product is made with cardboard, not newspaper, so it is less dusty and I did not experience any of the discomfort that goes with the old type, such as burning eyes. The old stuff was hard to calculate how many bags you need. I always needed more bags than the tables told me. This time I overbought because the new version seems to go farther.

Insulation was great. The free machine rental was rough. First machine I got didnt work very well and ended up shorting out. When I returned it they told me they had a bigger one. The bigger machine did much better.

Huge difference in our garage.

We bought this insulation for our garage and it has made a huge difference. The problem we had was the free machine they let us use to blow in the insulation. This machine was provided by the manufacturer of the insulation, but it would not blow any insulation. We had to rent a machine.

Installation frustration

The purchase and pick up of the installation material went fine. Lowes personnel were very helpful in loading the materials. However, the store didn't have the Greenfiber brand blower machine and instead supplied me with the Attic Cat blower instead. I was skeptical but tried to make it work. After testing that the machine worked, we added small amounts of insulation. The blower just clogged continuously. Finally gave up after an hour of trial and error with this blower.
