What Customers Are Saying
The log splitter is praised for its powerful performance, able to effortlessly split large, tough logs up to 30 inches in diameter. The vertical splitting feature is appreciated as a back-saver. Reviewers report the splitter is efficient, able to quickly process several cords of wood, including hard woods like oak and cottonwood. The hydraulics are described as smooth and powerful. While a few minor issues were noted, the overall sentiment is that the log splitter is an excellent, highly capable machine that makes wood splitting easy, especially for those with physical limitations or large wood-burning needs.

Would RecommendI waited to write a review until I used this splitter for a few months. The positives, plenty of power, I put this thing to the test with huge oak pieces so big I needed the front end loader of a tractor to move them, around 4 ft in diameter,. this splitter went right through them. I'm not sure why anyone would want more tonnage. The honda motor starts the first pull. The log cradles seem plenty strong, I'm not sure why the complaints on them. On the downside, the jack stand is difficult to work...
Good Splitter for the Money!
Would RecommendAfter approximately 8 hours of use with this new splitter I don't have a whole lot of complaints. The splitter has more than enough power to bust through oak and locust. While splitting, my legs were up against the plastic fender which was kinda annoying. Making the the splitting surface longer would probably fix this problem getting you away from the tire. The log cradles worked great and as long as you watch what your doing I don't see myself letting the bolts get sheared off like other people...
Great Splitter for the money.
Would RecommendI split a truck load of splintery elm wood and there was no problems with the splitter. I split 18 inch logs with minor hesitation, then it would power through, my old splitter would not put a dent in the logs. The only issue you have to be careful with is when the splitter is in the vertical position and retracting the wedge in automatic mode. When the wedge stops the handle springs back and if you are not paying attention when handling the split logs by the base, the handle will whack you in th...
great purchase
Would Recommendthis log splitter goes threw anything" just split some big willow, and ash,big pieces,no problem, got the military discount saved 155.00 only drawback i would like to see is a protective shield for the gas tank, i would recommend this log splitter to anyone.
Split wood for eight years with rental equipment
Would RecommendThis log splitter is great. Does nice job! Plenty of power. Has Honda motor which is the only gas motor equipment I will buy. Nice color red for trailering. Can be easily seen. For homeowner, buy this one!
Great little spli
Would RecommendMy wife bought me this splitter last year. I had split wood many years by hand and she thought I would like it. My wife was correct. This splitter has split everything I have thrown at it. I too have had to install larger bolts for the log craddle because they sheared off. Other than that it is a nice machine. Could use a larger fuel tank. Well worth the money. I have loaned it out to two friends and they have bought the same model. Was else needs to be said, it sells itself.
Great product
Would Recommendworks great, it has split anything I have given it. Bust purchase I have made equipment wise. Would definitely recomend this to others.

27 Ton 160cc Troy Bilt Log Splitter
Would RecommendI shopped on line and locally and this log splitter does the trick and thank you Lowe's for the 10% Military discount! By the way, Lowe's had the best price anywhere. I have never owned a splitter but this Troy-Bilt did not hesitate on any log I have put it through. The Honda engine starts with ease and the hydraulics work smoothly and easily. I have no complaints on this excellent product.
very good splitter
Would Recommendjust bought 5 days ago in bedford,va, have used a lot, very powerful, have used on oak, locust and poplar, have used on logs as wide as 4 feet, no trouble, is fast and more than meets my expectations. starts fast runs smooth.
Splitter Does Great Job
Would RecommendThis is a very good splitter, and does a great Job. Was very suprised at how much power it has. I have not found anything that it wouldn't split. If you can get the wood in it, it will split it with ease. It starts and runs great, although the motor is very cold natured, but that's not a problem, you just have to choke it every time you stop it for a while. The only problems are that the bolts that hold the cradle on are too small. (only 1/4 inch self threading bolts) They break easily, so you'l...
WOW
Would RecommendI have never owned a Log Splitter before I bought this one. I researched several different Log Splitters before I bought this one; and this Splitter exceeded all of my expectations. To top it all off the Lowe’s Employees were so helpful and were very knowledgeable about the product. A must buy if you currently are splitting wood by hand.
VERY POWERFUL and STURDY
Would RecommendI have only split 1.5-2 cords with this splitter but have been splitting wood for six years (about 5 cords/year) with a home-made splitter... that had power to spare. This splitter has a small fuel tank that lasts a little more than a hour and delivers an incredible amount of power with it's fuel sipping capabilities. There has not been a log, thick or thin, long or short, dense or soft, wet or dry, knotty or straight that this two stage pump has not been able to push the wedge through. At times...
Love my log splitter 4 years old and still runs like new.,I split an average 5 cords a year. no log to big to handle cuts through knots with ease. I use it in the vertical position most .
no customer support
Would RecommendBought the new Troy Bilt 27 to log splitter and it works great but had one little problem with a bolt being sheared off the cradle on one side from a log being split and twisting. I replaced the sheared bolt myself but emailed customer support about freeplay in the wedge and got no response in about 3 weeks now. Customer support from Troy Bilt is terrible. Dan
Home owner friendly
Would RecommendI bought this splitter in the spring and have since loaned it out to several friends and family. So far it has probably split in excess of 30 cords. I have not had a problem with the engine or hydraulics at all. The only criticisms I have found are the log cradle and the tires... The log cradle keeps breaking at the screws, no matter what density screws I use and both of the tires have had repeated flats... Neither is a huge problem but worth mentioning. It has more than enough power, seems quit...
It sure will do the trick...
Would RecommendLike the others who've reviewed this splitter, I think it's a great value. I was a little concerned about the engine - according to Honda, it's only 4.4 HP (net - using the new SAE standard for measuring HP). But after only its first use - throwing aged 24" diameter cherry, locust and oak at it - I was convinced of its sufficiency. Fuel tank only holds 1 QT of gas, but it lasts as long as I do, generally (2.5 hrs). No-Load cycle time is approximately 20 seconds (11 forward and 9 back). Other stu...
good for the money
Would Recommendmy splitter was a unit that had been return to store, and for what i paid for it , it works great and has good power. best $700 that i could have spent.
