auto lock fail

the auto lock seemed nice until it failed almost the first day. started as a slow creep but eventually it wouldn't hold at all. now just a few months later it failed completely and won't even retract. it will probably be cut up for jigs.

Best tape I can find

Best tape I can find, very accurate, dependable. I wear one every 6-8 months but with heavy use.

Stanley FATMAX 25-ft Tape Measure

Working construction this is my go to tape measure working through the entire year and concrete, dust, sand and much more this has held it's own and also made me get my money's worth. Stanley all the way or no way!

Pricey but effective

This tape measure was a premium price at Lowe’s but I felt it would be worth it. So far so good. Very durable and perfect size. Only issue so far (after about 3 weeks of use) is the auto-lock doesn’t completely lock. The tape will gradually creep in.

Works Well

Never had any issues with this Auto-Lock. My 1st one lasted over 2 years of constant use. Finally gave out after countless use in wet conditions and sand. I'm one to take care of my tools but I have to work rain or shine. I rolled this tape all the way out and would whip her down a many times. Served me well. Recommended and would get another one in a heart beat.

Frustraded Lowes sell poor made products

Kinks As bad as a tape measure at garage sale for 50 cents. Customer service is the worst I have ever seen, Keizer Or store. I have spent thousands at this store and in the last two years have had nothing but problems.

Ends come off!

Great tape, other than the fact the ends come off & make it useless.

Stanley FATMAX 30-ft Tape Measure

Rather telling that it already has a poor review, in spite of one carpenter giving high marks. Mine didn't break in a week. I've used it off and on for probably 2 years. SAYS it's made in USA but you wouldn't know it. They used to make tape measures out of metal, not plastic. Plastic is alright for the case, but not the internal parts subjected to stress every time it is used. Last time, I had to pull it out to about 22 feet, and when I let it come back in, I tried to do it in stages so it w...

Button broke after a few uses

Broke after only a few uses. Took apart and found out the plastic piece connecting the button and the stopper broke in half. $30 down the drain.

Didn't even last 10 uses

The locking mechanism failed, leaving it permanently locked with 14ft unable to be rewound. It went back & I got another, but since I haven't opened it yet, I may try another brand/model.

I am a Carpenter that builds Custom Homes. My tools get a lot of hard use. I used the standard FATMAX tapes since '06. I switched to auto-lock versions in '14 because I hate how difficult it is to lock and unlock the standard versions. Same great tape. Much softer lock. I have had no use for the bigger tape head attachment.
