Unreliable

The most important aspect of any tool for a guy in the field is the tool working properly when it's needed. Unfortunately this hasn't been the case with this particular NCVT. First, the sensitivity of the tester is highly variable. I was attempting to test the travelers in a 3-way system and it would beep from a foot away from the energized conductor, making it impossible to identify the dead traveler. Way too sensitive

All wires giving energized signal !! Can you turn down the sensitivity??

A first time user might have trouble learning to use it. Needs a little more instruction for those users.

Easy and convenient

I was crawling under the crawl space doing electrical work and this voltage meter was really practical. Plus I had my son use it why I checked which breaker to through.

A must have for DIYers.

Was a tremendous aid in helping me install smart switches in my older mis-colored wiring house. Love it. Highly recommend.

Easy to use, well designed

I like it, seems durable and is easy to use. I like the fact it clearly indicates when it is on or is being turned off. The flashlight has also been handy. I haven't used the lower voltage scale, just used for plugs and switches.

Started out great then was quickly disappointed

I was lead to purchase his product by the great reviews and the fact that it looked like the most rugged tester I had seen. It worked great for about two months then it started acting up. Even with fresh batteries it will not stay on for more than a few seconds. This happens on about every other power up which is very irritating as you can imagine. I don’t doubt that my unit is defective and would definetly had given 5 stars before it started acting up.

Worked perfectly for my home use.

This model seemed to work just fine for my home use. The higher-priced model have desirable attributes, but this was reliable and useful for me.

Southwire Analog 12-1000-Volt Voltage Detector

Purchased this with the idea to get my Christmas lights to work (replaced them all with new)! Bought this model because of the 12 volt and 120 volt features. Have not used the 12 volt yet. I had my half of my landscape lights not working - I was able to find wire that was not working and replaced it. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.

Very Handy Tool

I bought this tester before replacing some GFCI outlets in my home, and it was very handy to be able to confirm the outlets were not connected to power before beginning work, and were connected to power after work was complete. This is a very useful and helpful addition to the toolkit.

Southwire Voltage Detector

I like the way the product is made and its ability to detect lower voltages however, it is not nearly as sensitive as the Fluke Volt-Alert 1000. I like Southwire tools and, although I have decided to keep the product rather than go through the trouble to return it, I am very disappointed with it.

I like it so far

only used it once for voltage detection and it works as advertised. the flashlight is a bonus feature that some will not need but it could be handy in a pinch. The range feature might be a little more advanced for some folks but a nice option. A little more expensive than most but over all a good product.

Southwire Analog Volt Voltage Detector Review

Purchase this voltage detector as a replacement for my old unit that I've lost or misplaced. This is a much improved unit over the one I purchased more than 12 years ago. It offers an extended range of voltage detection and has a handy LED flashlight built in. It works flawlessly.

Handy item

Used in a major re-wiring project where circuits were not labeled. Performed flawlessly and cut down on work time.

Great product

I replaced my klien one with this lot better to work with so nice to have the flash light on it comes in handy when power is off and changing out a light switch to see when wire up a new one

Easy to use

Simple tool for seeing if current is present or not. If you need more info on current this isn't the tool but for just yes or no it's great. Used on household wiring but not low voltage yard lighting until it cools off.
