5 Stars - Due to Price vs Function vs Complete Kit
Would RecommendLook... I used a few router but I'm no pro. For my DIY work... to what you get vs what other brand costs vs the quality... you can't beat this thing. I look at it this way, everything has an issue or two. My brothers Dewalt sure does... but this thing even impressed him (brand-man). Also, Skil get a bad rap from the old days... but most of their "slighty more expensive" power saws and routers rock. Best bang for the buck... so far.
Good Router for my needs
This is a nice router... It's powerful, come with plung base, guide, etc... However, it doesn't provide any information on the base. It's a three hole which doesn't fit many router tables. You can always grill your own... Last, skil customer service needs to improve. Look at the replies on this website

Would RecommendJust starting out using a router. Had bought a Ryobi battery operated trim router, but wanted something with more power for larger projects. After reading a lot of reviews and watching youtube video's settled on the Skil 4amp Variable speed router with the fixed and plunge base. I've already affixed the fixed base to a router table where I can leave that base and still have the use of the plunge base for those other projects. Would Not RecommendI wanted a second router for doing rail ends on cabinet doors without spending a fortune. This unit does not live up to hype posted on the internet. It will only handle an inch and a quarter bit, too small for a simple tongue and groove bit. It vibrates like crazy and is twice as loud as my Bosch. The reducing collett from half to quarter inch is a joke. I returned it and bought another Bosch. Just sorry I wasted the time.

Seems like a good router. I would recommend it for the price, with the following reservation. I'm not a fan of the push button/LCD screen speed control. Hoping I'll get used to it. I prefer the little speed control wheel on my other router, it's much simpler. If the push buttons seem like your thing .... carry on ....
