DO NOT BUY. Junk

Bought 2 of these springs with a supposed limited lifetime warranty that Spectrum Brands the parent company will not honor unless I send the springs back to them at a cost of almost $20 USPS so they can evaluate them & maybe honor a replacement. These rusted away and snapped after 3 years. These springs cost $10 a piece but are not worth it. Will look at another brand to replace these.

Works great on my gate

This spring works great on my gate to keep it closed.

Two broke during installation

I picked up three of these, one for each gate on our fence. I installed the first one, then opened the gate. The bolts came out of the spring when I opened the gate (didn't even get to 90 degrees). After double-checking the directions, I tried a second one. This one popped apart before the gate even got open 45 degrees. Seems to be flimsily constructed pieces of junk. I'm not bothering with the third, returning them all and buying something that will work.

I used these for chain link gates

I installed a black chain link fence in my back yard with 2 gates. I needed a way for the gates to close automatically. I know these springs are designed for wooden gates but they worked perfectly well for me. I attached the bottom to my vertical gate rail (near the bottom) and the top to the terminal post - with the spring leaning to the right as recommended. I then put two - to three turns on the top bolt to apply tension and put the metal tab in place to lock the spring. It was perfect. I...

Spring broke

Spring broke from one end. The way my gate is connected prevented an ideal fit, so that may have led to the break

Very Strong

I put this on my fence and actually used it to make the gate close. If you gently open then it will still not close completely but very little. However if you do it normally then it will close. Very convenient.

Stretched out and the gate didn’t go to 90 degrees

Once the spring stretched out once just under 90 degrees open... the gate wouldn’t close as it had stretched the spring. Disappointing.

Springs Closed

This device works well, however there is no damping and the gate slams shut, often not latching. When reducing force via adjustment nut, the wind holds the gate open or it does not latch reliably. Could use a damping piston to keep the closing velocity in check

The gate spring works as advertised, was easy to install, and is adjustable.

Tough enough

I was very pleased that this spring was strong enough to shut the door to our oversized chicken coop. Everything else I tried was too weak
