What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise this combination square for its accuracy, solid construction, and reliability in woodworking and trim work. Most highlight its precision, noting it doesn't wobble like cheaper alternatives and performs exactly as expected. The American-made design is appreciated for its durability and lightweight, compact form that fits easily in tool belts. Some users report difficulty reading the finely etched markings, and a few experienced issues with sharp edges or component fragility like the level falling out or lock nut breaking after drops. Despite these isolated concerns, the vast majority consider it a worthwhile, professional-grade tool.

Would Not RecommendThe square slips with little pressure, and ironically the thumb nut locking it in place is very difficult to loosen.
Great option, but not the best for the money
Would RecommendThis 6-in combo square came square without any adjustments required, which I was happy about. I have Irwin's 12-in combo square, and I think it's better made for a similar price. I'm splitting hairs, but the scale readability and the finish are better on Irwin's, but I can only find it online. The nut on Johnson's is much better. Overall, this is a solid option, and I have over-thought it.

Square
Would RecommendEasy to use

Would RecommendWell designed. Does wabble like the cheaper ones do.
Outstanding little square.
Would RecommendOutstanding for window trim carpentry. Fits in the tool belt nicely. Easy to manipulate when gauging reveals at set measurements. The slide and locking knob are easy to set. Visually, the shine on the ruler makes it challenging to read measurements for 50+ year old eyes.

A necessity
Would RecommendThis does exactly what it is supposed to do. A useful suggestion would be to also purchase the small version (6" ruler) to use in restricted spaces.
paper weight now
Would Not RecommendLock nut, holding the ruler square broke after just one accidental drop.
If you need a T-square This one will do the job.
Would RecommendSeems to be well made and fair price. Bonus: Lowe's location less than a mile from my home.
