Ratings & Reviews for Homax 14 Ounce(s) White Popcorn Water-based Ceiling Texture
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly report poor performance with this popcorn ceiling texture product. Most note that coverage is drastically lower than advertised—a single can covers only 1–2 square feet instead of the claimed 4–8. Many experience defective cans that won't spray or dispense only chunks, requiring multiple purchases for small repairs. Reviewers describe uncontrollable splattering, dripping, and blobs instead of even texture. The product often fails to adhere to ceilings and doesn't match existing texture, drying yellow instead of cream white. A few found it acceptable for tiny, non-critical repairs with extensive practice. Overall, most customers regret their purchase and advise against buying it.

Product came out in big globs in spite of my shaking it for along time. i am disappointed with the results. Area I repaired stands out like a sore thumb against the rest of the ceiling. Won't buy this again.

It was an ok purchase
Would RecommendThe first can we bought was a dud so we had to go exchange it. Made a big mess on the floor but looks just like what is currently there. Now I have to paint it and see how it holds up.

Horrible
Too bad my can didn't spray out gently like the one in the video. I shook the can very well ahead and used up about half of the can "testing" it before I realized that it just comes out in huge wads. Just a god awful product...complete waste of money!

Thank you for your review. This product is a popcorn texture so there should be fair sized globs coming out of the can. If you need to thin the textur...
Worst Ceiling repair product I've ever used
Would Not RecommendMessy, splatters everywhere, drips off ceiling onto floor and walls, dries off-color yellow rather than a cream white.
MikeTheTiger- Thank you for your review. We apologize you were not satisfied with this product. For best adhesion we recommend priming before and aft...

Total waste of money
Would Not RecommendPrimed the surface with Kilz, next day tried to apply this product. One can would throw 'globs' if anything. Two other cans we tried wouldn't even spray. Cans were at ambient temperature (77F). This is the third time we've tried to use this product, all with the same results. A total waste of $50 and our time. From now on, we'll go back to the gun, even for small jobs. As a parting note, I should mention that I've been remodeling/repairing homes for 35 years..... (it's a shame you can't give a z...

Needs better instructions, perhaps with pics.
Would Not RecommendTried this product twice. Both times the finished texture turned out in smooth, foamy globs. Even shook the can vigorously beforehand. Coverage was lean.

Andy- Thank you for your review. For best coverage we recommend priming first. At 80% coverage 1 can should cover up to 4 sq ft. If the product doesn...

Popcorn Ceiling Testure
Would RecommendWorked great. My only mistake was that I didn't read the part on the can about masking off a box around the area to be sprayed. This resulted in popcorn as far as 10' away from the work area. It does clean up easy if you make this same mistake. The blend was perfect can hardly notice where the repair was made.

Easy to use
Would RecommendI had water damage on my ceiling which cause a patch of popcorn to come off. This product was easy to use, i just covered the floors and walls and spayed away. One thing to note, when it says 2 sq feet, it is 2 sq feet. Always good to get an extra can in case.

does not cover area stated . runs out before it should. would not purchase again.

Thank you for your inquiry. For best coverage we recommend priming the area first with a water-based primer. This will allow the product to adhere to...

Awful Waste of Money
Would Not RecommendI bought 3 cans of this stuff. 1st can worked OK, but coverage wasn't nearly as much as the can suggests. 2nd can did not work at all, defective, wouldn't spray at all. 3rd can came out in big chunks and I had to scrape it off my ceiling. At best, the product is inconsistent. At worst, it is a complete waste of money.
CMinnesota,
This product sprays best at temperatures between 68-72 degrees. If the product is too cold, it can spray out very thick. We recommen...

Product would, have been better I would have been able to use the entire can. I bought 5 cans and used half of each can before it started spitting out.

Swag,
If, when using the Popcorn Drywall Texture Repair the can starts to spit or sputter, we recommend placing it in a sink full of hot tap wat...

So-So
Would Not RecommendI bought 3 cans to cover about a 6 sq ft area. each can is supposed to cover 4 sq ft - NO WAY. I ended up buying 8 more cans. Can output was inconsistent - some had decent coverage, others were very course & did not look good. I had to scrape off some material & use a different can to get a consistent look. Of the 11 cans i bought, 2 did not work at all - like they were out of propellant. I used the straws & also shook the cans like crazy after the ball was loose. I used this product to avoid br...
Not easy but saved me time and money
Would RecommendAlot of negative comments but I had no problems with it. Ofcourse I blue taped a drop cloth to the ceiling, floor and around the small area I repaired. Glad I did it is a little on the messy. I used the product in four apartments in the same building after sprinkler pipe repair. I experimented on a scrap piece of drywall before the repair. I held it 1 to 2 ft from ceiling. The closer I got the denser the finish. Use extremely short strokes, there is only about 8 shots in a can. Results were bett...
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!
Would Not RecommendWhat a joke. After following the directions EXACTLY, this stuff splattered all over the place, on my furniture, in my eyes and hair... everywhere except the ceiling! The small amount that made it there dripped off onto the floor. I was only able to get 2 very short burst out (probably a blessing), then it wouldn't spray anymore. Amazing they actually sell this garbage.
messy and expensive
Would Not Recommendwhat a waste of money. Product is very messy and does not cover sq.ft. that it say's it should. Go with Litex popcorn repair, it's 1/3 the price and you can use a paint brush or a trowel.
Uggh ... DO NOT BUY!
Would Not RecommendShould have read the reviews first here too! We need to patch a spot above our fridge and were trying to get it done before the new fridge came but this stuff is just junk .... you have to shake it like crazy, then spray in short bursts -- well I would if it would stop spraying! (happened to both hubby and I) and it makes a huge mess, stinks and gets everywhere, drips like crazy the little bit that stayed on the ceiling looks good but we are definitely moving on to the brush kind ... Lowes plea...
This product is junk
Would Not RecommendThis product does not do what it is intended to do. It only makes a large mess. About 20% goes where it is sprayed and 80% drips to the floor and surrounding area. The large can contains enough spray to cover about 1 square foot, maybe. I bought 1, but will never buy another.
Hard to use; too much shaking; got more on covering materials than ceiling. Came out in big blobs. Will have to get another product.
Thank you for your review. This texture should come out like popcorn. There aren't any chips in this texture but should come out in larger globs to lo...
