severely disappointing

so I bought this today to assist in finishing a piece I've been working on for two weeks.. I spent 6 hours trying to make this work! The collet loosens itself all the time mid drilling. But on the off chance it doesn't loosen, you've got to basically guess and check your depth and loosen and tighten the collet over and over again. hole does not line up

When you line up your mark with the sight, the hole is off center from the line by about 1/16".

Junk dont bother

Plastic built. No matter how hard you try this will not drill a strait or clean hole. Very disappointing tool i bought it today im returning it tomorrow absolute garbage

Dowling jig.

I used a jig like this many years ago. This current jig was loose and some of the holes had to be redrilled. The quality is not there.

Pro Doweling Jig Kit

Had never used a doweling jig kit prior to purchasing. As an amateur woodworker, I was able to understand how this worked and used it right out of the box with no issues.

Best one I found, no fooling around trying to adjust for the center, small easy to use and once tightened downed it keeps the hole centered.

The older 840 was much better.

It does work, but, Not as good as the older version. the newer General version is mostly plastic. The older General 840 version was all metal, and would have received 5 stars. This does work, BUT, you can't drill the dowel holes near the end of the wood. Seems like General revised this newer version to save cost of manufacturing by using plastic. Look the same as the metal jig, but this is a plastic version. The jig is a good jig if still made with metal.

Complete Junk

Imprecise, difficult to use, sloppy tolerances, poorly made, bad design and useless. Did I mention useless? Yeh. Skip it.

changed how they were built

i bought one of these when they were all metal it worked pretty well as i build furniture professionally but i had to replace it the new one is plastic trash. i dropped it and it broke will not buy again. i would give it no stars if i could

big gismo not worth the money will get the job done but need to be patient and precise when using, gage markings are light and hard to read

Amazing tool. I had to bore out 16 1/2" x 6" holes in wood slabs for floating shelves and this device helped me execute this perfectly. I drilled out some dowel holes on a project I had sitting aside and, bam, done. Money well spent. Worth every penny plus some. Best of used with a brad point to get started

awesome piece for occasional use

I don't use all the time, but the times I have it has been alot easier then trying to do dowels by hand , very easy to use and read instructions if you never used one before, comes with 3 bits too that have been good quality

Easy to use

Works great and is easy to use. It’s better than the one we picked up from Harbor Freight and our project turned out awesome!

Priced right, could be a little more stable. But over all a good product.

Works well if tightened down to avoid slipping. Only problem encountered was is doweling small/thin wood it is hard to alline to marks. Other woods 4/4 or better, works well. Cost is very reasonable. Note, must be tight to avoid movement. Don't force placement.

get something else - poor design

In using it for a day (it's going back), I found that I could design a better version of this jig with a few improvements. I'm sure the other reviews cover most of the shortcomings of this jig, but here I go. 1. make the "barrel" tighten on both sides instead of just one. 2. put a groove in each of the guide rails so the set screws can actually hold. 3. put some high vis paint on the measurement markers on the guide rails. 4. increase the width of the jig plastic to be at least as wide as a 2x4...

Easy to use

Great product and does the trick, but the price is a little high for what it is.
