Would RecommendWe had power knocked out for nearly 12 hours, and the backup sump pump, along with several refrigerators were my main concerns, seeing we were looking at several more hours down. I did some quick research on the Generac RS5500, and it lived up to the reviews. I set it up in just a few minutes, pulled the starter, and boom--POWER! I added several more appliances, lights, etc (oh yeah, and my neighbor's too) and it never missed a beat! No fuss, no muss!

"Good Quality Generator"
Would RecommendI have depended on a McCulloch generator for the past 10 years. I decided to get a new generator but could not locate another McCulloch in the area I live in. So I went to the internet and read several reviews on the best portable generators. Generac was always one name mentioned at or near the top in the reviews as one of the best brands. I also talked to friends who had Generac Generators. They stated that they had gone by the maintenance schedule recommended by Generac and had no problems. I ...

Very simple and straight forward
Would RecommendI bought this unit to replace a smaller aged generator that is used for emergency power for my home. The features of this generator give me peace of mind knowing that my wife can easily operate it if I am out of town for work. The only drawback is that it is slightly louder than I expected. When the power lines are down who really cares about noise, just as long as you have lights, right? Overall, I am satisfied with the purchase, and I am really pleased with the simplicity of the controls.

This product is extremely easy to operate.
Would RecommendThis generator really is a great investment. Perfect to have as a back up around the house, or to power any kind of outdoor activities. I love it.

Very dependable and easy to put into full operation
Would RecommendWe had a terrible storm in Washington State where 9 power poles snapped like twigs. We had just filled our fridge and freezer with food and meat and knew it would take a while to get power restored. My wife, during work went and chose this particular model, which was basically a God send as I read the easy to understand instructions on running the generator, put gas and oil in it, pulled rope once, and it was purring like a kitten. We ran 3 extension cords to keep from losing over $600 worth of ...

Saved us during the 3/8/2017 WNY wind storm
Would RecommendWe lost power on a Wednesday afternoon after a major wind storm and got it back late Saturday night. With the amount of damage to the grid it I knew it would be sometime before we would get power so I fired the generator up. I put 43.2 hours on it and went through 22.5 gallons of gas. I ran a fridge, deep freezer, TV and cable box, router and modem, pellet stove, forced air furnace, as well as several lights and still had about 2500watts left. The generator never skipped a beat or ruined any ele...
Excellent product
Would RecommendHad the unit running for over 60 hours straight right out of the box. Worked great. Very pleased.

Not overly impressed...
Would Not RecommendUpon getting the generator home and setting it up, I found that it was only putting out 60v. Something was wrong with the throttle. For the life of me, I couldn’t get it to work. Lowe’s (understandably) couldn’t help me because they were out of units that night (high demand due to a storm) and repairs would take days. As a result we had another powerless night. The next morning I went to return the unit. ‘Luckily’ they had another shipment arrive with more of the same generator. Reluctantly I to...
Long cold power outage ran good
Would RecommendRan well in very cold conditions. I am not a fan of the 50 hour valve adjustment this requires disassembly and replacement of parts and service center costs for a new machine.

Fast and easy
Would RecommendPurchased this RS5500 to get me through an extended power outage due to a wind storm. Setup was fast, easy and well documented. I was able to setup and get the generator in service in 30 minutes. I like the features, like the choke and gas shutoff combined on the Power Dial. I also like that is has many options for connecting all types of cables. I especially like the included 20' 30amp extension cord that was included, this is a $100 value, and is very handy. I have only used the generator ...

It's Electric!!!
Would RecommendWe just had some 50 plus mile per hour winds in Michigan. Everyone at work was whining about losing power. My wife and I didn't lose power because I have the RS5500 hooked up to the house. It runs whatever we need and she can start it if I am not around. Inexpensive piece of mind with great quality!! Perfect back up for a home.

Little loud but worth it
Would RecommendI purchased this generator in anticipation of an ice storm that did not materialize. However last year we were without power for four days. On day three we were able to get a generator from my parents and re-wire the furnace to get the blower going to heat the house up from 40 degrees back to livable. Now that I have this generator I know that my family and I will be safe and dry (gotta run that sump pump too!) until the power comes back on.

Nice generator for the unpredictable weather in Oklahoma.
Would RecommendOklahoma has ice, snow and tornado's. I am now comfortable knowing that my family will be able to have power if mother nature comes our way.

Great portable generator but a little loud.
Would RecommendThis generator always starts on the first pull. Works great! I did require service in the first year for a failed fuel gauge (float fell off of float arm). My customer service experience was excellent and the new fuel gauge arrived quickly. My only suggestion for quality improvement would be too make the unit quieter. AND if you come up with a new muffler or something let everyone know. We will all purchase one if you do not price it too high.

Great little gen set!
Would RecommendBought for home to deal with outages. Used during one storm worked great! Very fuel efficient even under heavy load. It easily ran all the lights, tv/sat box, well pump, sump pump, hot water heater, everything except the central hvac. I wish it had an electric starter just in case my wife needed to use it and I wasn't home but for the price I can't complain, It does start very easy and she is able to pull start it. The only downfall is it is a little noisy. I am going to build an enclosure for i...

Great generator, powerful with plenty left.
Would RecommendThis generator was purchased for our camper and around the house for emergencies. Let me say wow. It has power left with a 24' travel with ac and full lighting and appliances. I found a great deal with a great special. Wheels and handle kit are awesome additions. I recommend.

Easy start up
Would RecommendThe assembly of the wheels and handle were fairly simple. The generator weighs about 200lbs. The noise level is equivalent to a lawn mower. We be nice if this equipment had an output display of watts/energy used. We are liking or generator thus far. Had it for only a month.
