Choose another brand if you can

This is the only compactor that will fit into my 26+ year old kitchen design. I had a KitchenAid that lasted 20 years and installed the previous version of this model which had 4 service calls in 5 years and was totalled as parts were not available. I woudln't choose this if you can fit another brand, the GE construction as with all their products is sub-par. I have a dishwasher from them as it was the only one that fit with 3 service calls already in 3 years.

Will we have better luck the second time around?

This is our second GE Profile Trash Compactor. We purchased our last compactor seven years ago and were very happy with just about every aspect of it: the capacity was tremendous; we were able to go at least a full week before having to empty the compactor and change to a new bag. Trash Compactor is TRASH!

I purchased this unit over 1 year ago, so it is out of warranty. Even though it wasn't installed until 11 months ago. Regardless, you don't expect an appliance to malfunction in this short of a window. When you run a compact, it compacts, but will not stop. And I had these shipped to puerto rico with many other appliances I purchased for a remodel. Now that I need service, I find out they don't service trash compactors in Puerto Rico!!! Wish I had known that before buying it.

Unhappy that the product does not have a handle

I do not like the fact that the trash compactor does not come with a handle to open and close the compartment. Unfortunately, the ones that did come with that were quite a bit more expensive.

stopped working after 2 years

This compactor was installed 2 1/2 years ago and has stopped working. Had a certified GE repair out that said they didn't know what was wrong and they couldn't order parts or fix it. I will be contacting GE to see if they can help me with this!

Poor design lead to foot pedal failure

I purchased this compactor from Lowes only 2 years ago. This week, one side of the foot pedal detached and is dangling half off, making the compactor nearly impossible to use. I discovered that the screw that holds the pedal to the bin completely broke through what looks like an extremely narrow piece of metal on the bin. I had a GE technician come out today ($123 just for the visit), only to have him inform me that the part to replace will cost $800. That is more than half the cost of just ...

Easy to install

This compactor is great. It was SO EASY to install. It just rolled into the space, no hardware necessary. It works well and is pretty quiet.

Opens about an inch

Only opens far enough for you to manually open the rest of the way.

Only opens an inch automatically.

I like the compactor but it only opens about an inch when you step on the bar. I haven’t manually pull the compactor open. I have had several compactors over the years and this vice only one I’ve ever owned that didn’t open further automatically.

Design Flaw in the Toe Pedal

This compactor couldn't even live up to the abuse of a 7 year old child. The footboard/Toe Pedal will break because of poor Pivot Hole Design. Many customers have complained about this issue with this model.

Weak compaction

Mu previous garbage compactor lasted for 35 years, motor finally gave in. This new compactor does not have the compaction compression as my previous one. Very inefficient. Disappointed with purchase.

First off I don't think this is really a GE product. It's sold as GE but there isn't GE on the product anywhere or on the box. I just replaced my old Kenmore compacter that I had for 20+ years. My old compactor had a double pack on it that would push it down extra tight when it was getting to the top. This one does not have that option and it barely compacts at all. Returning after 2 1/2 months

When first installed, this compactor was the end to my old compactors' nightmare! All was all "hunky-dory" for 2 months. Then I started noticing small issues. The foot petal sticks a little preventing the compactor to open or you'd have to use your hand to pull it out fully. Can't be "too fast" opening the drawer but also can't be "too slow". Don’t buy

Breaks frequently, since they say I bought it. always getting repaired. At least been repairs 4 times. Repairs and parts cost more than what I paid for it

Cool Compacting Appliance

We have been using our compactor for about 3 weeks, and we love it. Definitely helps cut down on filling up our garbage can every other day. We’re taking out our garbage about every 5 days.
