First Alert Story 1125-lb Steel Fire Escape Ladde

This fire escape ladder is sturdy and gives us piece of mind. Our son is at college and his room is on the second floor of a two story house. This ladder is much better suited for use as a fire escape than the rope ladder choices we considered.

Peace of mind

Bought this escape ladder because I worry about getting the kids out of the house if there was a fire. Very portable and easy to use! I sleep a little better knowing we have that in an emergency!

First Alert Story 1125-lb Steel Fire Escape Ladder

I have a one story house and I didn't buy it for fire safety. I had to get down into my fireplace cavity from my attic in order to secure a TV bracket for my 65" flat screen over the fireplace mantle. Didn't trust putting molly bolts in the wall as there were no traditional studs in that area. I only had to go down 5 feet, but using this ladder made the job much easier. Only problem was getting it folded back into its original shape. Like folding a road map after using it.

Home Fire Escape Ladder

Have not needed to use yet- thankfully- but have inspected the product and it seems fit. One word of caution- I ordered 2 ladders online for pick-up at the store. Upon arrival one of the packages was damaged on the outside and covered in packing tape. (ladders must be properly packaged to unfold correctly) Hesitant to take that unit (was a fraid it was a return and could have been improperly repackaged) I asked the staff if anymore ladders were available to substitute. great safety ladder for entire family

Bought this as a house warming gift for my Son. With a two children in upstairs bedrooms, their safety is so important. Had the children practice putting escape ladder on window ledge. The eight year old had no problem putting this 12 pound ladder on the window ledge and dropping the rungs down the side. This fire escape ladder is so light-weight but able to safely hold 1,100 pounds. It gives great peace of mind for everyone.

Hope to never have to use.

We bought this because we moved in to a two story house and wanted to be sure we had means of egress should the main stair well become blocked. I have been researching many of these - and it came down between this one and the KIDDE brand ladder. Ultimately this one won because it is reusable, whereas the KIDDE one is not. Again - hope to never have to use it - but it seems very well built and strong to enough that I would feel comfortable.

Never want to use this

I choose to purchase this brand from Lowe's because it is reusable. The competition sells a one time use only.. I intend to have a fire drill with the family as soon as the ice and snow melts (mid March I hope). I rated four star because I have not used it.

Packed well and seems well constructed

What I liked about this product was that it appeared to be made well and, also, that it was packed nicely into a flip-top box with a handle so it would be easy to store and easy to access, if needed. The only negative I could see was that it was a bit heavy. Not extremely so, but I found a different brand one at Home Depot and bought that instead, even though it cost about $5 more, because it was a bit lighter in weight. Both were of a weight that was fine for adults, just wasn't sure if a young...

Good idea, but didn't work at my house.

I was disappointed when I got home and found that window threshold was too wide to accommodate the ladder where it attaches. I will have to return it for something wider. Be sure to take a measurement, if your home is brick, this will not likely work.

Too heavy

Too heavy to realistically think anyone under 14 could get it put of the box and over a window sill.
