It is virtually impossible to climb down safely

I bought and tested this ladder to hang freely from my top floor balcony. The company should state unequivocally that it must touch an external wall when hanging. It is virtually impossible to climb down safely if the ladder is FREE HANGING from any structure and not touching a wall. I also seriously doubt that many people would be able to safely negotiate down even if the ladder is touching a wall, due to it being ninety degrees vertical straight down. First Alert Fire Escape Ladder as a Christmas Gift

I chose the First Alert steel fire escape ladder for each daughter living in 2 story condos because it is compact to fit under a bed, has a 6 year warranty (vs. other ladders are a one time use), and reasonably priced. Hopefully it will never be needed, but as a parent, it is a perfect Christmas gift!

Great product, easy to use

Bought this for each of our bedrooms just in case we have to get out quickly...they’re well made, easy to use (according to the directions) and provide us with a sense of calm in case a fire breaks out.

Safety

Seems strong and good quality. We feel much safer having it for our upstairs bedroom in case of an emergency.

Safety

Nice and compact.

Bought 2 of these as Christmas presents for my daughter & her family, since they had recently moved into a two story house. It worked as described, just open it up, hook over the window sill and let it dropped. Grandson was involved & thought it "was cool". Once we tested it, we were able to re-stack & secure it as it had been originally packaged.
