Would RecommendThis switch has the most flexible programming I've seen on a switch!! It allows you to set program by day of week and time on/off, random, or you can also select to turn on/off by dusk/dawn time - you can set current date, specify dusk/dawn times, and then select if you're in northern, middle/central, or southern US - to compensate for the longer/shorter days/nights between summer and winter. Genius!!
Everything a timer can be
Would RecommendThe Eaton astronomical programmable timer is a tad difficult to program the first time but once you have done it it works like a charm. Stepping back to the beginning, installation is straightforward but some electrical experience - or a licensed electrician - are necessary. If terms like neutral, hot and load - or worse yet - not knowing how to determine which is which are foreign, you should hire an electrician. Of course, if the switch you are replacing has four wires and is labeled on the sw...
Easy to connect programmable timer switch
Would RecommendThis programmable timer light switch is well designed for a porch light. The installation is made very easy with all wire connections made inserting the stripped wires into the switch and tightening the screws. Even the ground wire does not need to be bent around the screw. When installing this switch, I replaced a simple on/off switch that had a ground and interrupter for the hot wire only. The neutral wire was bundled with all other neutrals in the switch box. However, for the programmable ti...
Requires four-wire with a fixture load.
Would RecommendUnfortunately, if you live in an older house with the "standard" three-wire (Hot/Neutral/Ground), this is not for you as is my case. More to follow . . . In newer wiring, instead of a loop to the fixture from the mains, the fixture has its own load wire, so you will see a dedicated load wire from the fixture rather than a simple loop, that black (hot), white (neutral) and green or bare copper or greenfield with the outer flexible metal (ground/earth). So to the product itself: What a neat th...
Problem solver
Would RecommendRequested as a problem solver/programmable timer to energize the block heater for my truck during the winter months. It’s wired to an external outlet and programmed to energize 3 hours before I leave for work to reduce the hard starts on my diesel truck
Great time with astronomic program features
Would RecommendGreat timer -- needs neutral of course like all manual (non-smart) timers. This one has the astronomical data, so when you set it for dusk-to-dawn (or dusk-fixed time) it will turn on when the sun sets at your locale. That's essential for these timers as otherwise you have to change the program at least once every season.
Easy to install, would recommend to anyone.
Would RecommendNeeded something to control some indoor and outdoor lighting, look no further. Super easy to install and super easy to program. I was worried b/c there were some that were a lot more expensive and some a lot cheaper, this did exactly what I wanted!
Very cool hardwired timer switch!
Would RecommendThis is an excellent switch if you want to have something that is controlled by timer. It has an automatic daylight savings time function and you can come up with several different programs, for different days and different times. I used mine for outside lights and it was a great alternative to having to put light-sensitive bulbs or lights on all the fixtures. Comes in white and fits in a regular square switch plate. Would definitely use it again!
Automated switch
Would RecommendThe switch works as intended. Has very in depth programming capability. I used it to set my front porch lights to on and off at predetermined times and it works perfectly. Only thing is this switch requires a true hot when wiring in the 3-way configuration. This is not something i would recommend for a DIY.
I dont have to worry about the lights anymore.
Would RecommendI always try to remember to turn on the light in front of the garage at night. I dont like getting out of bed to check, or getting back from work and see I left them on all day. This switch is a problem solver for both, it uses sunrise and sunset averages to control on and off automatically. It simply inputs the date time, all the info it needs to calculate. You can always do ot manually and turn the program off, but who would want to do that? It was easy to install and now this looks great,...
Nice and simple switch
Would RecommendTo start off with, the switch comes well packaged in a box with instructions. It's a fairly simple install. Make sure you connect the neutral wire or it will not work. I really like the push to turn on/off. As for configuration, it takes a bit of time to learn it but it's nothing complicated. Once you set the time, all your configuration works like a breeze. Overall, a very good product
Loaded with features
Would RecommendGreat switch for lights or motors requiring automatic function on a regular basis. Works in single or three-way switch mode. Automatically adjust to time changes. Following the instructions is important for the switch to work properly. Can work as a standard switch in manual mode. This switch is probably best for more advanced DIY users.
Handy Little Switch
Would RecommendThis automatic switch works well and is easy to program. Installation was relatively straightforward. Be aware that it will require a neutral (white) wire to function. As long as your house was built in the past 30 years, it should have one, but if you're installing in an existing switch box, it probably won't be readily apparent. It may even be in the wall behind the box. Mine was in the box and just required the addition of a wire from the neutral line into the switch. I installed it in ...
Program, then install. It's backed up!
Would RecommendThis is going to be used to replace a light switch, and allow random (semi-random) ON/OFF of lights in the house for when I'm away. It helps deter would-be thieves by making them think someone is home. In stead of waiting until it was installed in the wall and then taking a picture, I pre-wired it with a power cord. This way I could program it, and see it in action before the install. Since it has battery backup, the programming is retained when I disconnect power and install it in the wall. Thi...
Great timer
Would RecommendGreat timer. It was easy to install. The directions have how to program it. When the door is closed on the front it doubles as the light switch by manually pushing on the door. I recommend it. I'm using at my front door porch light so I don't have to bother turning it on and off.
Nicely designed astronomical timer
Would RecommendWell designed timer. Installation instruction was very clear. Be aware that this does need 3 wires. Hot, neutral and ground. So cannot swap in for a light switch. This does not come with a wall plate, so based on install location, one will need to buy a suitable wall plate. Programming instructions is very detailed. Font size of the printed instructions can be made slightly larger.
Awesome Programmable Switch
Would RecommendI got this switch to automatically turn on and off my front lights. This switch turns them on at dusk and turns them off at dawn. I am not an electrician; however, I do most of the electrical work around my house. My home is well lit during the night, and I don’t have to worry about turning the lights on and off. It took me about half an hour to install the switch. It was an existing installation, so it took me a while to untangle and rearrange wires. The switch is bigger than normal switches so...
Eaton Programmable Timer
This timer is easy to install in the wall and has many on/off settings. The one small problem is the programming instructions are not easy to understand and the digital numbers/symbols are very small & hard to read. It took a bright light and magnifying glass & some extra time to get it programmed . I just wish there was a bit more contrast between numbers and background.
Failed to work after proper installation - no disp
Would Not RecommendThis is a bear to wire from the side terminals because the screws do not come out far enough. That being said, after I got it wired properly, the display failed to illuminate... The packaging it came in was ripped and it looked like it had been opened and returned. I suspect what I received was a defective product that had been returned.
It adjusts for the changing sunrise/sunset time!
Would RecommendVery nice product! I've been looking for something like this so I can have my lights come on in the evening at sunset and stay on until a set time. In the morning I like them to come on at 6:00am and then turn off at sunrise. Of course the time of sunrise and sunset changes quite a bit throughout the year. This timer takes care of that! Nice quality product made by Eaton. Good instructions. It is pretty large as switches go but still fit in the small box in my 60 year old house. Note that some w...
