Would Not RecommendI've had a number of issues with this device and so I can't give it 5 stars. I don't know if I should blame the controller or the app. Most of my issues are connection issues. I've never had "Flame out" issues with my smoker until I got this. Each time I've smoked meat, I've gotten this error and had to clean out the ash and restart my smoker. The last time I had to do that 5 times! I've never had to do that before! It's pretty scary when you're 2+ hours into a smoke and you don't notice until...

Hoped for better
Fitted the controller to my Woodwind as directed. I wouldn't say it was easy but I did it. Getting wifi and Bluetooth is another matter.Wifi, I bought an extender which greatly helped the signal but the bluetooth is out of range in a few feet and It keeps trying to reconnect annoyingly every 30 seconds, whether the unit is on or off,I had to uninstall app to make the messages stop. It does seem to regulate temp swings but I see no difference in smoke levels. I don't understand why some people se...

Works great! No wifi or bluetooth problems
Would RecommendWorks great! No wifi or bluetooth problems. Very easy to install and connect to app & wifi. App could be a little better, like knowing temperatures of different meats. But functionally it's been great!

Repeated "Flame extinguished" errors and poor temp
Would Not RecommendI bought and installed this controller about 3 weeks ago. When trying to use it, I get frequent false starts due to the flame going out. This never happened with the original controller. Once I get the fire to stay lit, the temperature control is terrible. Yesterday I set the temp at 375. When the grill reached this temp, it continued to increase and as it reached and passed 415 I reduced the temp to 350. The grill temp then dropped to 410, a full 60 degrees above the set temp. Don't waste your...

A great idea, but...
Would Not RecommendI bought and installed this several weeks ago. Since then, I have had multiple "Flame has extinguished" messages on the APP and had to recycle the power switch to start the flame again. The grill is 3 years old and never had this problem with the original controller. I think I'll switch back to the original controller and see if the flame-outs continue. If not, I'll return this WIFI one.

GEN 2 User Upgrade
Would RecommendEasy install and setup. Now I can monitor temps without having to be in front of grill. The WIFI option is what really sold me on the update. I was using my Weber iGrill wireless temp probes, but the bluetooth limited the distance to maybe 20 ft. The one thing that Weber had was four probes. So one suggestion I would have is offer a four probe option ond the upgrade.

Great upgrade for my Wood Wind!
Would RecommendI installed this week and smoked an amazing brisket. I love the ability to monitor the smoker temp along with the meat probe temps from my phone. No longer do I have to walk outside to check temps! I saw a lot of reviews complaining about the range of the wi-fi and loosing connectivity. I've had no issues connecting all through my house. As long as my phone is on the same wi-fi network as the grill, there is not connectivity issue. The grill can only connect to a 2.4 ghz signal though. So if you...

Don’t waste you’re money
Would Not RecommendOverall have been happy with my camp chef smoker but recently upgraded to the WiFi controller and extremely disappointed. The range is absolutely horrible with both Bluetooth and WiFi and unless you have you’re router 10 for from the grill with nothing obstructing it. Would not recommend buying one.

Not ready for prime time.
Would Not RecommendHuge disappointment. Wifi works for 15 minutes after start up and dies before you start the cook. Device app is useless. Temp issues with the grill now, fire extinguisher is close by. I'm going to call support to try and get this resolved, if not the original controller is going back in the grill.

Not happy with this. Please get it right Camp Che
Would Not RecommendEverything works EXCEPT the wifi. They just don't seem to be able to get it to work for everyone.

Big disappointment, very poor wifi and bluetooth
Would Not RecommendGuess I should have read the reviews closer before buying. Even with the newer firmware installed and a dedicated access point 10 feet away, the wifi connect drops. Bluetooth range is very limited also. If the smoker is not running, only powered on, wifi seems stays connected longer. As other stated if it had an external antenna that might solve the problem. I didn't see it doing any better controlling temperature either. Save your money.

Could be better
Would RecommendPros: PID works flawlessly. Temp is very stable as long as you are using a low smoke setting. Easy to install. Finished in 10 minutes. Cons: The app is loses connections and doesn’t update consistently in the background. I almost ruined a brisket because the warning didn’t go off. WIFI signal is very weak. My cell phone has full strength but the controller disconnects all the time. Bluetooth distance is low. My wifi thermo probe can reach anywhere in my house. With the camp ...

This is not what I expected, for my upgrade
Would Not RecommendI upgraded my Woodwind 24 SG with the WiFi controller. I have not had a good experience with the WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity. This is my second unit. The first unit I preformed the Reset and could not connect again. They sent me a replacement and this unit doesn't work any better. If I try multiple times I my be lucky and get it to connect, by clearing the App cache and Data. Going through the complete setup process. Next time I use my grill the WiFi won't connect. Now the Bluetooth won't co...

Just OK
Would Not RecommendDisappointing that I can't start the grill remotely and only two probe connections. Disconnects from bluetooth constantly, app does not work well. Overall a good product but overpriced.

Great idea, terrible app
Would Not RecommendIt was easy to install, and works fine, but the app/WiFi portion is almost worthless right now. I did get the app to connect but the smoke control has never worked, that was one of the things I was looking forward to the most. While cooking the app seems to disconnect quite a bit, and none of the notifications have ever worked. If they can fix the app I would be a lot happier.

Great Innovation/worth the wait
Would RecommendMy controller went kaput on my Camp Chef pellet smoker (I have 2...this was Thelma) so I ordered a new one. I was oblivious that they were in the progress of upgrading to the Gen II. I was getting a bit frustrated with the time it took to get here but, it finally made it. Now, I have used the new controller several times now and I could not be happier. You are now able to control the amount of smoke (1-10), and the temperature does not seem to vary much at all...every time I check it is exactly ...

Nice upgrade
Would RecommendThe retro fit controller was an easy install except the wifi setup on my phone. It connected initially but I have not been able to reconnect. I will delete the app and start over on the setup. Even without the wifi I love the controller, better temp control, better smoke, probes are more accurate. If I can get my phone to work with it I will go 5 stars.

I don’t care for the upgrade but I love the grill
Would Not RecommendI have never loved a grill as much as I love my Woodwind. But I do regret upgrading to the new controller. I find it much more difficult To start off at a low temp and smoke as well as I don’t think the smoke dial seems to work at all. I have to get a device out and connect to take the temp back down to low temp high smoke since I haven’t found a way to set that from the dial on the grill. Changing from smoke level 1 to smoke level 10 is not a noticeable change in smoke. Perhaps I have...

Love the remote features
Would RecommendUsed this half a dozen times now. Install was easy. Connectivity has been fine. Tighter temperature control and ability to adjust smoke separate from temp is really nice. The separates probe temps and timer are also a plus. As some have said, it’s like getting a brand new smoker,

Smoke Control Gimmick
Would Not RecommendI've owned the Woodwind Gen-1 smoker for 3 years and it has been a great grill. I was please to hear that Camp Chef offered a controller upgrade with adjustable smoke levels which is why I purchase the upgraded Gen-2 WiFi controller. Needless to say, I am very disapointed in the Smoke Control. I cranked the unit to its highest setting of 10 expecting to see smoke billowing out like a regular stick burner. To my suprise, I could not see any noticable difference with its performance versus the reg...
