App Will Not Work!

I purchased this last spring (2020) and have never been able to use the app which is why I got it in the first place, several e-mails with support and each one telling me to try something else, was a huge waste of money!

Easy swap

It is very easy to install and gives the option of two meat probes. The only downside I see so far is that I have a very large deck and the smoker is in a smoke house on the far side and the Bluetooth doesn’t reach as far as I like and the blue digital numbers are hard to read from a distance.

It constantly goes offline and the not works close to the smoker. Should have r saved me money.

I'm buying a second one

I have two previous gen camp chef SGX grills, one at home and one at my cabin. I bought one for my home to try out, and now I'm back for the second one for up the hill. Installation was a breeze, everything labeled correctly, and about 10 minutes start to finish including the bottom

It would help to have more accurate specs

This is a great add-on to be able to manage the smoker from my iPhone or iPad. It would have been nice to know upfront that it only operates on the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band, and has a very limited range. I had to get a range extender to push the signal far enough into my backyard to reach the smoker, but once I did updating the software and operating the controller were a breeze. This is a nice thing to add if you have an older smoker (I have a SG-24 with the sear box) and want better control over smo...

Don’t wait to make yourself happy!

Installation instructions were clear and made the process extremely easy. I noticed better temp control the first smoke. I’ve done a pork butt and looking forward to a brisket.

Great Upgrade - smoke/temp independent control

This is far better than the original controller - it allows independent control of smoke and temperature rather than being locked in at the 2 temperatures for "high smoke" - and the ability to control from the phone is a nice bonus. Also, during startup I can see the status on my phone - so I don't have to run outside to check to see when it is time to shut the lid. Same thing for when it's up to temp and ready to load with the goodies, no more running outside to keep checking. Installation...

Wireless connection sucks

After using this for many months, the wifi sucks on this retrofit controller. It rarely connects on my android phone, unless i'm right next to it, when the bluetooth kicks in. Even then, the app constantly tries to switch between blue tooth and wifi and 8/10 times it fails. The wifi connection is pretty unreliable. Makes the app useless. What a Difference

I bought the Gen 2 Retrofit controller to upgrade my Cabelas (Camp Chef SmokePro DLX) pellet grill. It took a week to be delivered to Canada. Installation was seamless and took less than 5 minutes not counting the time required to remove and reinstall the bottom plate of the hopper enclosure. Bluetooth and WiFi connection took only a couple of minutes, installed a firmware upgrade and I was in business, It is like getting a brand new grill. A Nice Upgrade

Fairly easy to install. Hooked up to wireless and updated without issue. Thr only gripe I have is the wires on the grill side need to be a bit longer. It was a bit of a surgery to connect everything. The app worked without issue.

I wish we had ordered it before!

This retro fit WIFI controller is awesome! It works so well, and it seems like our temperature fluctuations are far less than they were with the old controller. We resisted for awhile, but I’m so happy we decided to get it.

Well worth the investment

Great upgrade to my pellet grill. Installation was easy and the instructions were straight-forward. I really like the ability to control the heat and the smoke level at the same time, and I can sit in my home office and monitor my cook as it goes.

Will this fit a CharGriller 9020? They look very similar and the wiring appears the same. It looks like a great controller.

Big Antenna

As a ham radio guy, I was impressed by the big wifi antenna built into the unit. And it does indeed connect to my backyard access point without issue. That I can now monitor my cooks from inside the house - is beyond cool. I have been using it to aim the end of the cook to dinnertime.... Gonna be ready too late? Turn the heat up. The installation was without issue. My only complaint is the bluetooth...why is it always trying to connect, when the the unit is already communicating ...

Not what I expected

I thought this would be a upgrade for my older Woodwind but it is defiantly a step back. It hardly will get over 400 degrees no matter how high I set it. Not happy with it at all. Money well wasted. Should have saved it for a new smoker from another brand.

Great Wifi Controller

Received the new controller and removed the old one and installed the new one. Everything worked perfectly and got everything connected. Logged on to my wireless network and smoked some pork ribs the first night. They turned out perfectly and the controller and new probes worked.

Controller great, Bluetooth needs some work

Great replacement controller, interfaces with the phone app very well. The bad, the instructions for injuries cometh the bluetooth are a little vague. The blue tooth does not stay connected, even though it is connected to wifi. Kind of a pain for the blue tooth alert to come up evey 5 minutes.

Outstanding Pellet Grill Upgrade

The Gen 2 Retro WIFI Controller is an outstanding upgrade to our fabulous WoodWind grill. The PID technology seems to hold the grills temperatures even closer to true than before. The ability both to adjust / vary the smoke settings and to be able to monitor and adjust the grill via WIFI to my cellphone is a very nice feature.
