2 yrs then block loses compression & dies

Well, I ditched my electric ~4 yrs ago. Bought this unit. I was happy. It ran well for about 2 yrs then it would shut off after 30 - 40 min of use. New spark plugs & cleaning helped a bit. This week it shut down after 20 min. Tried the next 2 days - Won't start. Repair shop told me the block is at 50 psi. 90 psi is required. A new block is needed! $80 to tell me this thing is now junk! Garbage/Does not last/Dies in 2 yrs

I bought 2 of these in 5 years. The life cycle is HORRIBLE! At some point they just quit running. Like many others have posted, I changed spark plugs, cleaned carburetor, replaced carburetor, etc and this junk still quits working. Save your money and buy something more reliable. Trust these posts!

broke after 2 months

broke after only 2 months of light use. I am having issues getting it repaired at an authorized dealer. It has been in the shop over a month because Craftsman is requiring too many hoops to jump through. Never again will I buy Craftsman!

1 year later

Well, it held up for about a year. Then the pull cord snapped halfway through. I contacted Craftsman—still under their 2-year warranty—but they told me I’d have to haul it to an authorized service center. Wow 👏. I always thought Craftsman stood for the whole “Go Dad, DIY” vibe, but if they don’t even trust me when I say the pull cord broke, I’m not sure I can trust their products anymore.

after 5-6 yrs engine locked

used this trimmer every other week for the last 5-6 yrs, only replaced the worn trimmer bump head. until today, I filled the tank with 50:1 fuel mix, and started doing the deed, when it clanked and stopped, after multiple tries after it cooled down, i was able to pull the pull start, and then it locked again, a few more yanks and it pulls, but will not start at all. I have a craftsman blower of the same size that just stopped running as well, but it seems to have lost all compression... these...

Dont buy this weedeater. Engine runs good. DOES NOT KEEP STRING. Something in the design is faulty. It will eat weeds for about 1 minute at a time and then all of a sudden the string just comes loose and draws back up inside the head. I tried multiple sizes and types of string. Loaded them all correctly. IT DOES NOT “WORK” for more than a minute or two at a time before you have to unravel and reload the string.

Won’t start

I bought it because growing up i always heard craftsman was a good brand. After reading the reviews and troubleshooting videos on youtube, seems like its a common issue. Mine wouldn’t start after only being used a few times. Contacted lowe’s, who referred me to craftsman. And their warranty program seems to be more of a hassle than what its worth. I have to pay a deductible that i “may” or “may not” get back. I took it to a local guy and pretty much told me the carburetors are trash on them.

From the first time I put string init gave me issues. The string wouldnt stay in both side when winding it. Had to rig the string up to stay. The second and third time I only had the string issue. The forth time, no matter what I did it would not run. and no support. it is also heavy comparatively

Reasonably priced. I was concerned it wouldn't have the power of the Husqvarna it replaced, but it does. Also, I like that it excepts the universal accessories that I was using on my other trimmers.

Hearing protection!

Top quality CRAFTSMAN construction although most of the engine looks like my 7-year-old TORO unit. Very powerful although very loud, recommend hearing protection. I also like the way you can use your old attachments, no more debt to rebuy you existing attachments
