Trimmer head froze up.

It worked well until the trimmer head froze up. I can see plastic that had become liquified and resolidified. It is out of warranty,so I am stuck with it as a paperweight. It would be nice if the head assembly were available as a unit. As it is, I would have to order numerous parts, and the repair would likely cost too much. It also seemed to use up trimmer string faster than other string trimmers that I have used.

Not happy

I bought this trimmer LST540 last year. I just started using it for my second season and the motor seized up. My last electric trimmer lasted 10 years which is why I bought another Black and Decker.

What a PILE of poo!!!

Black & Decker has REALLY gone downhill. I bought this trimmer a few of years ago. It gets VERY little use. About 18 months of owning it, the motor siezed. So I order a new motor and installl it. Well.....GUESS WHAT......now after about a year that motor has seized!!!! And, this is just after I bought 2 NEW batteries last month. So I now have 3 good batteries and a trimmer that is a piece of garbage!!!

Junk

I bought this in April of 2018, so I used it about 6-8 times for the season. I have a residential lot 100x106 so I'm not trimming a jungle everyday. The last use at the end of summer the motor locked up. 6-8 uses? Is that all you get? This should be sold in the toy section of the store. I'll never trust buying a Black and Decker tool again!! Don't waste your money!!

Worked only five times

I bought this last year and used it for less than 10 minutes each time. Now it will run for only a few seconds. Thinking it was the battery, I bought a replacement. Same problem. The battery shows full charge yet the unit will run for less than 30 seconds before slowly stopping entirely. It will restart but only run for a few seconds.

Powerful, yes. Trouble-free, no.

I bought this for the 2017 season after using an LST300 for 2-3 years. Even before the end of the season the little gadget that pays out the line was failing and sending out yards of string, often wrapping up the whole thing. One suggestion I read was to reverse the wind and then pay it out manually as needed. This actually worked! So good, after the 1st, I bought a 2nd one

SICK of gas trimmers, HEAVY, a mess to mix fuel, I bought one of these and a extra battery, then latter one of the fast chargers, I was SO PLEASED, I purchased another for our out of state property where I would not have to transport the trimmer. I trim 3.5 acres, many trees, & 4 buildings, TOTALLY SATISFIED, I >>DO<< wish I could fit one of those heads where you can feed short pre cut lines into it.

we've had ours for 3+ years and still going strong

maybe we're just lucky. but we've had ours (trimmer and blower combo) for 3 (maybe closer to 4?) years now with nearly no complaints at all. batteries still work for AT LEAST 20 minutes for continuous use at full power. we recently bought the companion chain saw. and it's surprisingly capable. gets though the better part of 1/4 day of trimming small to medium (2"ish and smaller) tree trimming like hot butter. the only complaint i have about thetrimmer is the continuous line feed always seemed...

Wrong string pre-installed and only a 20' spool.

I bought this two months ago at Lowe's. It came with white .060 string pre-installed and not the green .080 recommended.

great trimmer

I have had this trimmer for 2 years and it works great trimming along the driveway, walks and around the shrubs. IT works so well that I just purchased a LHT2436 hedge trimmer. Hopefully it works just like the string trimmer. Both are well worth the cost and now I have 2 batteries.

longevity

As expected the gear that drives the spool failed 3 months out of warranty. I am looking for another brand now.

LST540

I am not happy with this product- I bought it last October and at full charge the battery lasts 10 minutes. I loved the LST400 and LST420 that I bought previously and when they died in September I thought i was upgrading to a better product. I fully charged the battery before use in June and was very displeased with the product. In addition there was no manual in the box and when I go to the website I cannot get the manual from Black and Decker- this was a total waste of money

Problem installing lower guard

The plastic guard will not 'snap' far enough into place to align the screw.

SMOKING and DEAD

I have used this about 5 times. The first time the spool cracked and I had to replace right away. Then it started to smoke and died. DEAD.

do not last

great warranty, but last a year and then motor lock's up smoking, three of them done the same thing.

Pay less, get less

Same physical size battery as cordless drills, actually 36 volt with 40 volt max no load, leaves you with 2,0ah. Single .060' line cuts Ok but at a much slower pace than dual line trimmers. $80+ for a spare battery helped me decide to swap for the big yellow brand. Now that's a trimmer! Big 4.0ah battery, dual .080" line and free spare battery offer. More money, much more of a machine.

VERY SHORT BATTERY LIFE. BATTERY DISCNTINUED

AFTER PURCHASING MODEL LST136 18 MONTHS AGO THE BATTERY WILL NOT CHARGE.VERY POOR SERVICE FROM A WELL KNOWN COMPANY.I WAS A BLACK AND DECKER CUSTOMER. A BATTERY SHOULD NOT BE DISCONTINUED SO QUICKLY.

Good but...

Like the power, especially the variable speeds. However, the charger does not work well, takes a full day to charge. Taking back and trying another one.

36 Volt string trimmer

This is the first tool of this type I've bought that was battery operated and I am very impressed with how well it works. The battery lasts as long as I need it - I've never run the battery down and the fact that I can put it on the charger and leave it without worry is a plus. The trimmer is a single line type and it works as good or better than the one I had previous which is a Black and Decker corded with 2 strings. Repeated problems with line feed

I like this trimmer because it is light weight and easy to use. Unfortunately, I am liking it less each time I use it. I have used 2 B&C spools and have repeated problems. At times can only go 12" before I have to stop to feed the line manually.
