Transform Your Cabinets
Use Rust-Oleum Cabinet Transformations (#340517) to give existing cabinets a fresh color and finish without stripping, sanding, or priming in only about a week. Choose from several colors -- we went with dark and handsome Kona. You can also stack crown moulding above upper cabinets to make them look taller and to visually lift the height of the ceiling.
Create New Nooks
Free up counter space by swapping your countertop microwave for an over-the-range model. This compact, powerful unit (#392013) includes a vent fan and has a stainless-steel finish to match the existing appliances. Then turn a slice of cabinet space above the microwave into an attractive display shelf.
Update the Sink, Faucet, and Hardware
Upgrade your cleanup zone with a new sink (#40255, model #440195-2) and faucet (#5365). For a quick change to cabinets, buy new knobs (#243957) and pulls (#244124).
If budget allows, extend a base cabinet for mini drawers. Use countertop jars for added storage and organization.
Update Under the Sink
Organize undersink cleaning supplies with a pullout metal basket (#297829) that also keeps paper towels off the counter.
Retrofit for Recycling
Turn a base cabinet into a recycling center by adding a pullout bin (#278250).
Add Furniture Style
Make cabinets look more like furniture. We took the doors off a few upper cabinets to make open storage along the refrigerator wall. By extending outer cabinet framing to the countertop and adding a custom-size shelf for bins, we created the look of a built-in china hutch. Then get the look of stone countertops in an affordable, durable form. This laminate (#144739, model #3460-46) mimics real Calacatta marble.
Turn above-counter space into a mini home office. Fabric bins from allen + roth™ (#7974) slide into open shelves, providing attractive, easy-access storage for cards, recipes, and supplies.
Hold Your Mail
Create a handy place for mail. Make a simple rack by mounting a long cabinet pull (#362248) and an angle bracket (#215881) on the end of a base cabinet.
Style with Tile
Replace a dated backsplash with fun and fashionable new tile. The lively choices include this porcelain mosaic tile (#526292), which extends up the wall to add a pretty pattern behind open shelves.
Refinishing existing cabinets is like gaining an all-new kitchen for a fraction of the cost.
