What Customers Are Saying
The garden soil provides mixed results. Some customers report it is a good, affordable option that helps plants thrive, while others describe it as more like mulch or wood chips that does not hold moisture well or support healthy growth. The quality and performance appear inconsistent, so customers should inspect the soil before purchase and be prepared to amend it if needed.

Would Not RecommendI bought 1 bag today at Lowes since I had run out of my normal potting mix and urgently needed some to cover grass sprigs in my lawn. I should have checked these reviews, but it was starting to rain and I needed to get back home. I expected to find garden soil with fertilizer. Like others here, I found the contents of this bag to be totally unacceptable. It was mostly wood chips, with very little soil mixed in and there was almost no fertilizer. Do not use this product as 'garden soil' because...
STONES
Would Not RecommendI bought 40 bags on sale. I found stones/rocks in every bag. I also agree with the others that report the 'dirt' being more like mulch. So disappointed. At least I bought it on sale. I will say this is the first year I've had any issues.

So far so good
Would RecommendCleaner than miracle grow.
Would RecommendTried this soil out this year for topping off/mixing into our garden. Hoping it helps, I will say it had no garbage in like the miracle grow soils we bought last year, mulch content was low so I would buy again.
Dirty dirt
Would RecommendIt’s dirt, pretty much black and dirty.
Garden soil
Would Not RecommendBags had mildew growing on soil but it should not affect it as I just mixed up the bag before using Plants seem to be doing well but only been a week
Great for containers, raised bed, in ground.
Would RecommendI really like to use this in my pots, raised beds and my in ground flowerbeds, it seems to not have a many sticks in it as other brands and it doesn't dry out super fast in my pots. I do line the bottom of my pots with a cheap diaper before putting in my soil, it helps so much during our super hot Oklahoma summers.
This is just mulch
Would Not RecommendThis is just mulch, shredded a bit finer than regular mulch. It is irresponsible of Lowe's to sell it as garden soil.

I'll never buy again
Would Not RecommendWe bought this for our new raised bed, 10 bags. There are lots of "things" we're finding in the dirt now, Pieces of hard plastic, pieces of wire, things I'm not sure what it is. We're using it for a vegetable garden and don't want all of that in our food, which we probably won't because nothing is growing in it.
