Ratings & Reviews for Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard DLX Broadcast Spreader 46-lb Capacity Compatible with Ice Melt, Salt, Fertilizer, Seed

What Customers Are Saying
Customers are sharply divided on this spreader. Many praise its ease of use, lightweight maneuverability, and large hopper capacity, noting it's simple to clean and store. However, nearly as many report severe mechanical failures—plastic agitators breaking, wheel axles snapping, and edge guard cables severing after minimal use. Uneven fertilizer distribution is a frequent complaint, with customers describing visible striping across lawns despite proper calibration. While some value the edge guard feature for keeping fertilizer off driveways, others report it fails within a season. Overall, this spreader polarizes users between those satisfied with handling and those frustrated by premature failures and poor build quality.

"This" spreader is total garbage.
I gave it 1 star because there was no "0"... The Mrs gave me one in May for my birthday. By mid-summer the edge-guard cable failed, oh well, I removed the edge-guard and carried on. After one over-seed and two fertilizer applications (on 2000 square meters of lawn) I determined that it worked well for grass seed but not fertilizer product. Fertilizer (and anything with more mass than seed) jams/stops the plastic agitator when the drive wheel/spreader is moving (i.e. slippage between the wheel...

Quality Issues
Bought the edgeguard a few years ago. Last year cable to edgeguard mechanism broke making that feature useless. This year the plastic impeller inside the hopper split and popped off making that feature useless. Very disappointed in quality. Only use 3 times per year on an average side yard.

disappointment at winter
When I use the spreader for seeds or fertilizer, it works perfectly. But the moment winter comes around and I try to use it for ice melt, it's a different story. The right wheel keeps getting stuck, and instead of spreading evenly, it dumps all the ice melt in one spot. I've cleaned it, and that fixes the problem temporarily, but then it gets stuck again later.

UNABLE TO FIND SPREADER DIAL CONVERSIONS
I should not have to search the internet to find out what the dial settings convert to. Sorry but I do not always use Scotts products for every situation. I will NEVER purchase another Scotts product again! There are many other persons looking for the same conversion.

Newer isn't better
Have had this spreader for a few years now after letting a family member borrow my 25+ year old Speedy Green spreader. Rather than retrieving the old spreader, I decided to just buy a new one for myself. What a disappointment! My old one worked flawlessly. The newer one does not disperse the fertilizer equally thus leaving stripes in the yard. Following the recommended settings, I use far less fertilizer than I previously did despite using the same Scotts fertilizer. The Edge guard left bu...

The Good & The Bad
Would Not RecommendI purchased this 46-LB Turf Builder EdgeGuard DLX Broadcast Spreader after my 40 year old spreader finally gave out. I wanted a fairly sturdy spreader for large property home owner use. Spreading about 200 LB of Rye Grass seed once a year is about the only thing I will use it for. The Good. It is sturdier than many home owner spreaders I looked at, but not of commercial quality. Controls are smooth and easy to adjust and use. The EdgeGuard I found to be very useful and very effective and ...
