Ratings & Reviews for Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard DLX Broadcast Spreader 46-lb Capacity Compatible with Ice Melt, Salt, Fertilizer, Seed

Trusted name

I have an broadcast spreader but it was intended for ice melt so the settings don't match most fertilizer distribution settings so I bought this one. It holds almost a full bag. Adjustments are easy. The controls are easy to reach.

This product does not appear to be new, looks used.

I found the product seemed to be used so Kervin went with me to the register and gave me his discount, awesome employee, then Michelle hooked me up through Pete(mngt) All awesome employees, definitely will keep coming back

Easy to use

I like this because it holds a whole bag of fertilizer or grass seed. It works very smoothly. I use to use a hand held but it always clogged.

Used item delivered

Ordered new item online and was delivered a very used item next day. Unacceptable! Will be returning item to store for refund. Very disappointed in Lowe’s!

Does not live up to the brand name "Scotts"

Extremely disappointed with this spreader. One could always depend on Scotts products without hesitation nor regret. I purchased this in April 2026 it is now passed the 90 day return window. Do you stand behind your products? Please help.

Scotts is reliable

Scotts stands behind its product's. It's smooth and very well built. It's also easy to use

The spreader leaves stripes in your yard for every pass that you make

Garbage

Scotts should be ashamed. I've gone thru 2 of these in years. Uneven striped coverage lines. Cheap materials, breaks down when needed most. 1st one had edgeguard and drop handle/line issues- they replaced. The latest lasted less than 2 years and the whole gearbox and axle broke apart mid-job, spilling $50 worth of Summerguard. Luckily not in the lawn or i'd be FURIOUS. No more Scotts for me!!!

This is okay - if you don't use anything heavy

this is a great design, and it does it's job well, but it uses the WRONG materials. The plastic teeth that connect the right wheel to the shaft wear out and then it won't turn the spreader plate making it useless. The entire rest of the product is fine, but the WORKING part breaks. Along with that ,the two legs that hold the wheel shaft can't handle the weight of heavier items like fertilizer if you fill up the hopper. 46 lb capacity is a JOKE. Because of that, they have bent in, which then...

Drive wheel failed after 4 uses.

I used this spreader for lime, seed, and fertilizer. The drive wheel splines (plastic, of course) failed rendering the spreader useless. This is the 2nd DLX I've bought -- the first I returned to lowe's after it failed the first time I used it. These spreaders are junk.

Poor Dispenser

From day 1, this spreader under dispensed. I would finish my lawn and noticed more than half full. I did it again and still had a little product left. I did it a third time. I checked everything. Called Scotts, found that factory setting on 5 allows a 1/4 inch drill bit in opening. I noticed the wheels/axle were stiff to move. I wash and rinsed the unit. WD40’d everything. Noticed push and wheel rotation much easier. Didn’t last, next time I used it the agitator couldn’t keep the hole ...

As advertised

I liked that I could order on line and pick the item up and hour later.

Only used once. Wire snapped before second use.

Only used this one time and it worked great until trying to use it for second time. Pulled the handle to release product and wire snapped. No replacement parts available to repair either. Waiting to see how the warranty works.

worked for 1 application

worked 1st time used spreader and then spinner drive started working intermittently giving an uneaven application. Spreader is not usable. Was cleaned and properly stored between use. Wheels and drive system is poor. Any warranty support is non existant through Scotts. Would not recommend this spreader.

build to be replaced

Works really well for a little while, then you're stuck jerry rigging any repairs
