Ratings & Reviews for Scotts Whirl Handheld Spreader 8.0-lb Capacity Compatible with Ice Melt, Fertilizer, Seed
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise this handheld spreader for its lightweight design, simple crank mechanism, and reliable performance across grass seed, fertilizer, ice melt, and other lawn treatments. Reviewers consistently highlight exceptional ease of use, even coverage, and effectiveness in small or hard-to-reach areas where larger spreaders are impractical. Many compare it favorably to previous models and appreciate its compact size for convenient storage. The adjustable output by walking speed and crank rate allows precise control. A small number mention price concerns, and a few report isolated durability issues, though these are rare. Overall, most customers consider it a valuable, efficient upgrade for small lawn care jobs.

There is no instructions or charts to know how much product you’re spreading. It’s a guess! I’m putting down The Anderson’s .48% Barricade. Which setting do I use ? 1,2,3?

MISSING INSTRUCTIONS ON APPLICATION SETTINGS!!!
Looking for what the settings to use for application. Why dont you have them up here rather than the lame "set orange dial to the correct setting.... Your instructions here do not do justice to being useful by explaining Setting 1 = X lbs/unit, setting 2=X lbs/unit. Common sense in my opinion. Why would Scott not have the simple scale definition up here at the website?

I bought this a few days ago. Definitely makes spreading seeds and fertilizer easier however, many of the fertilizer pellets fall onto the ground while using and the width that the fertilizer shoots out is too wide for the area of my lawn that’s narrow. It would be great if there was a way to adjust this setting without having to purchase a separate attachment.

Covers a wide area of grass for a handheld
Would RecommendLightweight and easy to use and spreads fertilizer evenly

Works mostly well
Would RecommendVery simple and easy to use. If I could improve it would be to control how wide it spreads. One buys this for small yards but there’s no control over how wide you spread the contents and you end up wasting some going out on sidewalk or areas you don’t need it. If it was a super big yard I wouldn’t mind, but then I’d buy a bigger spreader.

It is very easy to use.
Would RecommendI really like this product. It operated very smoothly with distributing just the right amount for our lawn. I have the cart/spreader and it was hard on my back because I tend to bend over pushing the spreader. This allows me to naturally stand straight while distributing product.

Much better product compared with similar one from Gardena. Unfortunately, I lost the small paddle inside. It is simply mounted on the axle. where can i get it?

It works well
Would RecommendI wanted a manual one because I don't want batterries in equipment I use once a year. An added benefit of the manual is that i am able to adjust the distance it broadcasts by handle speed which is useful in my small and varied lawn area.
