Easy to use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This seed mix is easy to use on your yard and it doesn't take very long to start noticing results. I have a seed spreader that made it really easy to evenly distribute under some shade trees. After I watered the ground then let the fertilizer do it's job. Very pleased with the results.

Good product to get growth in very shaded area!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pennington Smart Seed Dense Shade Mix is one of the better products I've used. I have an area that is shaded by a large maple tree that I have been unsuccessful in growing much grass for many years. I followed the directions, used a hand spreader, and so far am seeing very good results for a spring planting. I plan to overseed using this product again in the fall as well to really fill this area in. Kudos to Pennington for this product!

Lawn seeding

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Hi. I tried the Pennington Shade Mix as my lawn is patchy and I'm a very shady area so this sounded like a great solution. I followed the directions and kept the seeds watered daily . After a week of anticipation I never saw. a single sprout. I wish I had better results but just relaying my experience ... Maybe others had a better time but I didn't have any luck myself.

No growth

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was hoping giving it more time would result in seeing some growth but unfortunately there was none. I followed the instructions on the pack to a tee hoping to make those bare spots around my tree a bit fuller and still saw no new grass.

Great Seed!

Instead of a lawn, I have dealt with mud and dirt for years. I got this bag of grass seeds specifically formulated for shady yards, and amazingly, I have grass growing in the backyard now!!! It is so easy to apply it. I simply disturbed the dirt and mud with a heavy rake, used a seed spreader to get the yard covered in seeds, watered it regularly, and ...

Fast Growth

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far I have loved this product. Comparing it to a different but similar product it has definitely had faster growth. The other brand took approximately two weeks just to see any sprouts. This product started sprouting within days. It has been 8 days and I'm already seeing progress. Within two weeks they should be fully grown. Overall I am happy with how it has helped my yard look a lot less bare.

Starts growing really fast

Great Product!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was my first time using Pennington Smart Seed Dense Shade Mix and it did not disappoint. A portion of my backyard only gets 2 hours of sun and has struggled to produce grass, but with the use of this product I now have a dense lush backyard. I plan to reseed in the fall. This is now I permanent fixture in my lawn care routine. I highly recommend.

Quick and low maintenance

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very easy to install, just mix it up with existing soil. I felt I had to water it a little too much but it looks great and blends in with my existing grass. Grows as expected and after it started I did t have to do anything special with it.

Good seed blend for shady areas

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] While it's still early in the season (April), I was able to use this to patch up a few spots in my yard in shady areas, and some began germinating after only 5 days. Pennington seed is typically my preferred because it has a good germination rate and comes coated to protect against fungal attack. The one drawback to the Smart Seed product, in my opinion, is that the water smart coating makes up 50% of what's in the bag - you end up paying more ...

Nothing happened

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm sad to say this did not work. I didn't get any growth at all from this seed. I was hopeful because it's intended to be used in shady areas but nothing not even one blade of grass.

It Works!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had numerous bare spots in my back yard. I used the smart seed to patch the areas. Even with the colder weather, the seed sprouted quickly.

Patiently Waiting!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We live in Colorado and have not had a lot of moisture, lots of wind and the weather has been all over the place. To plant we followed the directions on the bag, but I think we planted to early. Since we only used part of the bag we will give it a try again in May and see what comes up.
