Surprised

I was out of town and needed a box plane and didn’t have one with me. I picked this one up to do some finish work on walnut and hard maple. I used this plane basically out of the box as I also didn’t have my stones either. While I wasn’t expecting much from an “out of the box” untuned plane, I was pleasantly surprised! It was peeling paper thin curls on had maple and walnut. It was even able to handle end grain. It’s not a Lie Nielsen or a Veritas, but for $35, I can’t wait to proper tune and s...

Crap steel

The steel is crap, the fingerprints left on the planer made it corpse, now is full of rust.

Good value

This plane is a pretty good copy of LN low angle block plane. The sole is pretty good front to back but side to side it is dished about three thou! For any precision work you will want sole to be as flat as possible. The blade is thick. Mouth is machined square. Cap screw is loose fitting so I wrapped with teflon tape. Blade seems pretty easy to adjust for fine cuts. And it came sharp. So far so good.

Had it flattened and sharpened in about 30 mins. Produced nice thin shavings - very smooth

So close... but bad machining left the bed canted

I liked pretty much everything about this plane! Felt great, good O1 steel blade, BUT... I got one with a seriously canted bed relative to the sole. It could not be adjusted to take an even cut across the width of the blade. The second one I got (from the same store) also had the same issue. Returned both as defective. I really want to get a good one... maybe I'll try again when my local store gets another shipment.

Well made

I have a fairly large collection of planes. This plane takes one of the top spots on the shelf. Didn’t take a lot of time to tune up. I sharpen to 15000, and it didn’t take long. The blade back was pretty flat. And it is good steel. I highly recommend this block plane.

60-1 block plane machining issues

the bad : Blade bed is machined on an angle from side to side, significantly, to the point that to get shaving on high side requires an excessively large shaving on the low side of bed. Various machine burrs that had to be cleaned up. the good : Sole is flat. Nice thick blade.
