Would RecommendThe bit well into hardwood lumber. I did have one that broke apart as I was setting it. The hew portion of the insert nut sheared off and I had to decide if I could finish installing it or should remove it. I was able to fashion up a way to get it installed flush with the wood surface. I am not sure these as as robust as the brass ones, but my project called for a little extra heft and I went with these. 3 out of 4 went in fine, just one potential defect in the manufacture process.

Repaired roof anchor point for pool solar panels
Would RecommendMy pool solar panel retaining straps were ripped off by hurricane Ian. Some of the original lag bolts were pulled out of the plywood under the shingles. A larger lag bolt did not work. I installed these inserts in the plywood and used a galvanized machine screw to attach new anchor hardware. I had purchased these inserts as a plan "B", if the larger lag bolts didn't work. I am glad that I did. The securely held the new hardware.

Would RecommendGoes in smooth but takes an impact wrench to get them in with maximum external thread engagement. Internal threads are smooth.
