What Customers Are Saying
The planer is capable of producing smooth, high-quality finishes on various wood types. Customers appreciate its powerful motor, accurate depth adjustments, and effective dust collection. However, some users have reported issues with the feed mechanism, motor failures, and excessive snipe. Durability concerns have also been raised, with components like blades and rollers wearing out prematurely. The dust collection system and lack of an integrated outfeed table have also been noted as drawbacks by some customers.

I have had this planer for over two years and have planed everything from maple and oak to pine and fir. It does an mazing job and with the infeed and outfeed tables installed and adjusted, I get no snipe at all.

Makes work easy. Just goes through blades too fast
Would Recommend[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works great. Only downside is planer blades (which aren’t cheap) become dull fairly quickly, especially doing lots of hardwood. Still beats a hand plane!

Would not buy again
Would Not RecommendI ran very few board feet through. Used only 5 times only taking taking off 1/32 and the motor started smoking. Lowes has very poor customer service and dewalt customer service was just as poor. Do not recommend!! Will not shop at lowe again
Needs improvement
Would RecommendGood, accurate, and sufficiently powerful for a benchtop planer, but lacks important feature. Wood sticks to the feed bed. This is a very effective planer, but it needs simple bed rollers to allow wood to feed without stalling. I discovered that an occasional spray of Pledge removed wood resin from the bed and assisted feeding.

Good but tough, laborious work.
Would RecommendI've been using thickness planers for nearly 40 years, and I know them inside and out. In short, a good machine eats the top of a board while you stand back and watch, and will do so quickly, and without too many passes. Put all such expectations aside with these contractor jobsite toys! This planer has very accurate settings, cuts very smoothly, and is rugged and portable for limited jobsite use, say, for a finish carpenter needing to fabricate stock on site. It's also sufficient for the ...

rollers do not pull boards through
Would Not RecommendAs others have said, this planer has a big problem pulling the boards through. It worked good for 3 boards then after sawdust accumulated on the rollers it would not pull them through any longer. I had to help it by pushing on the boards. If you don't continuously keep pushing and the board stops then the rollers leave black marks of the boards where they rub. I was working with dry pine 2x12s. I will be returning this, for $700... it needs to work properly. Too bad, because it works pretty g...

Blades
Would Not RecommendThe blades only last two boards 10’ long before I have to change blades. I mean the first two are great looking but then it’s maintenance for 15 minutes. Buy a different brand.

Snipe's like crazy
Would Not RecommendEven with level inflow and outflow, there's a good 2.5" of snipe on everything I run through it.

terrible snipe
Would Not RecommendWith all the glowing reviews I had high expectations and I am extremely disappointed. For all the things this machine does well the snipe makes it unusable. For what it costs there should be zero snipe. I had a Ridgid planer that this was supposed to replace and it had a cutterhead lock that completely eliminated the snipe and costs several hundreds less. DO NOT BUY.

Tensioner Spring Stupidity
I am trying to remove the chain tensioner so I can replace the belt (after 17 years, it failed) but the PHILLIPS screw stripped and I can't get it removed. First, why is it a PHILLIPS instead of an allen head screw (like the rest of the screws in the machine)? Second, its so tight it feels like thread lock was used (the 2 4mm allen screws also seemed to have thread lock because they "popped" when broken). If so, what were you thinking? Good thing I was able to use the allen wrench to p...

Works great when it works at all...
Would Not RecommendI'm replacing the armature and field for the third time! Of course, as I had it for more than a year Dewalt will not help. Their new slogan should be, "Dewalt, high-end prices for low-end tools."
