Begrudgingly did the job

Was using to install an eye piece in a metal door. Started with a pilot hole...but it took a lot of force for me get the drill through the metal clad door. I would recommend for drilling into metal. It worked great on the pvc and plastic pots I was drilling drain holes into.

Dewalt 5/8-in black oxide twist drill bit

Bought bit at Lowe's, took it home and made one trip trough a 1/2-in mild steel plate. Wouldn't do the next one. And yes I was running cutting oil on it the entire time.

purchased to drill holes in landscape timbers to fit rebar. works great.

Broke during first use

I was using this drill bit through a truck frame and it broke on the first hole. I thought it was for metal.

Drill bit review, 5/8" Black Oxide

What can I say, it's a drill bit, it did what it was supposed to do and gave me the two holes I wanted. I do wish it had the 3 flat spots like the smaller sizes have, but then sizes up to like 3/32 don't have them. I think all of the bits should have the 3 flat spots for those of us that have quick twist bit changers, the round ones slip, the smaller one's more so than the larger ones. It's really too early to tell how good it is I just drilled two holes but it seems to be fine, did seem to cut ...

Worst Drill Bit ever bought

Tried to drill a steel plate and drill burned up had to trow it away didn't even finish 1 hole

Low quality

The metal in this is too soft, I bought 2 bits the first bit spun off when stuck in the metal, the second one bent when it got stuck in the metal. I have never had drill bits of this size do this in the past. I could see this happen with a much smaller bit ,while using too much power. but a 5/8 bit in a 1/2 in drill.

bent, 3rd hole in

Was drilling in mild 1/8" steel and on the third hole, just before finishing the hole, the bit got caught up and had to back it out. Going forward again I noticed the bit was off balanced and bent, pretty much useless. My first dewalt bit and my last. I would look elsewhere before spending $17 on this bit.

It drills without dulling immediately.

Goes through the heavy metal without dulling. Made several holes in 1/4 plate and heavy channels and it is still ready to cut. Just don't forget to use cutting oil!

Excellent drill bit

This worked perfectly to drill holes for 1/2" carriage bolts in a floating dock project. Went through a 2" beam in seconds!

Very poor quality! Couldn't even drill two holes

Was very disappointed with this drill bit! It was dull prior to completing two holes in a 1/4" steel plate. Had to go to Harbor freight and bought another bit that was better quality for much less than the $18 I spent at Lowes for this single bit.

Used on metal worked out great. Did what I had to do with the one bit. Didn't break or wear down.

Did the job

I was able to drill holes through 2-4x4's and a 2x4 in order to be secured by a 10" carriage bolt. This was for a rail around my existing pool deck. Project completed.

Great drill bit for the price!

Saved me a lot of time on the job. Used to drill several holes in a cultured marble tub surround secured to sheet rock. Never cracked the marble or hesitated when drilling.

Bent

It cut just fine but on my third hole it started to vibrate. When I took a closer look I saw that the turned down shaft was bent. It would have been much better it the shaft was turned down to 1/2" not 3/8" or maybe a harder steel shaft.

Don't waste your money.

If you are gonna spend 17.00 on a drill bit buy one that is a little more durable.
