What Customers Are Saying
The product received mixed reviews, with some customers finding the screws suitable for their composite decking, while the majority reported significant quality and performance issues. The main problems included the screw heads stripping out easily, requiring excessive force to start, and causing cracking or damage to the decking material, especially during removal. The inconsistent quality across batches was also a concern. Overall, the high rate of screw heads stripping out and the difficulty in installation and removal made this an unreliable product choice, and customers were advised to explore alternative screw options.

DO NOT BUY!
Would Not RecommendThese screws are complete garbage! I thought it may be the bit that they sent so I used one of my own, NOPE! The first five or six stripped right away, the next few broke in half. Trash! Do not buy these.

Terrible. Garbage. Do not buy!!
Would Not RecommendThese were total junk. Every other one stripped out, even with brand new torx bits. I don't believe all the good reviews. Maybe I just got a bad batch?? I've driven a lot of screws, and these are the worst!

Inconsistent quality
Would Not RecommendThese screws will frustrate you. The torx head will strip out on about half the screws. I’ve pre-drilled the holes and they still strip out. Emailed Hillman and they suggested I buy a countersinking bit for the head as well. That might be fine if I was only using a few screws, not hundreds. I returned them to Lowe’s who didn’t care on why I was returning them.

These should come with a screw extractor
Would Not RecommendEasily 30% of the heads stripped on these, and I was predrilling my Trex. Complete trash, taking these back to Lowe's and buying an extractor to remove the half driven stripped screws that aren't exposed enough to grab with vice grips. They must have pretty terrible quality control at Hillman.

Great on composite decking
Would RecommendThese worked fantastic in the Trex composite decking. they go in without pre drilling, although you do have to push to get them going. the head cuts in clean and doesn't leave that flared out mess. I know because i ran out and had to use a few regular head deck screws to finish up and those did leave the mushroomed out material. You do need to be careful not to let them dig too deep but that is more due to the Trex having those groves underneath and so depending on where your screw hits, you ...
Even after pre drilling the tree the thread seemed to continue to get choked. Trex fasteners although more expensive were worth the extra to cut down on aggravation.

Poorly Formed Screw Heads
Would Not RecommendI purchased these screws to work on a deck project installing composite deck boards. When the screws worked, they look great and hold well. Unfortunately, the heads on the screws were not well formed. At least 15-20% of the screws in the 1lb box that I purchased had heads with hexagonal holes rather than torx (star) shaped holes. (See picture: Good screw on right and bad screw on left). These screws require a fairly high amount of torque to properly drive, and the ones with poorly formed hea...

Chinese Junk
Would Not RecommendBought 5 boxes of these screws. The 1st box did pretty good but when I went to the 2nd box I started going through torx bits like crazy. Burned up 5 bits in about 30 screws. The quality control must be crap because I switched to another box and they were fine. Out of the last 2 boxes both were bad.

Recommended for Trex decking
Would RecommendBlends in great. As stated in another review, make sure you put them in the right spot, because they're not coming back out!

Great for edges instead of hideaway Trex connector
Would RecommendI used this to fasten deck boards to joists and house, along the exterior of the deck and the stairs where it is not practical to useTrex hideaway fasteners. It is far easier to use than the edge clips provided with the hideaway fastener box. Real easy install. Make sure you get a color matching or close to the boards.
