What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise the splitter for exceptional power, reliable starting, and robust build quality. Most highlight how effortlessly it splits tough wood like oak and maple, even logs up to 36 inches, drastically reducing physical effort. The Kohler engine starts reliably on the first or second pull, even in cold weather, delivering consistent performance through multiple cords. Reviewers describe the unit as heavy-duty and well-constructed, anticipating years of durability. A few report minor pre-assembly issues like low oil or fluid leaks, but confirm the splitter performs flawlessly once properly serviced. Overall, most consider it a worthwhile investment.

Would Not RecommendThis thing arrived covered in rust. The delivery driver told me they are stored outside.

Rust Noted
Would RecommendVery disappointed that I was delivered a splitter that had obviously been sitting outside of the store without a cover, thus rusting in some areas. For the cost,, including $79.00 assembly fee that I would get one that was not fresh out of the box. I understand this is just as good as a brand new one, but I do not leave my equipment outside to rust. It will now be covered and stored in the garage to keep it from weathering.

Nice Log Splitter
Would RecommendThe Craftsman 27 ton splitter works great. Haven’t hit anything yet that slows it down. Like the Kohler engine too. Very happy.

Overall a good machine but needs improvements
Would RecommendI bought one that was discounted because it had been returned for a defective fuel line (and repaired by Lowes). This was ideal for me, because it was already assembled and had gas and oil in it, so I could start it up and cycle the ram to see how I liked it. Plus it was discounted $500 and the same warranty. Pros: Starts easily, has auto return so you don't need to hold the lever in reverse, plenty of power, reasonably fast cycle. Easy to change to vertical position if you need that. Built rugg...
Best option within my price range
Would RecommendDay one: I assembled it myself to make sure it was done right. Day two: started by splitting a cherry tree I cut down. Day 3: split some hickery that was given to me that finish off my 3.5 ricks for the weekend. Slowed down on some of the larger (20+ inch) logs of cherry but finished the job much better than expected. Happy with my purchase.

Selling used equipment as new
Would RecommendThe product itself was fine. The problem was that Lowe's sent me a "floor model" that had obvious damage to it without asking if I wanted a "floor model" at a discount. They are essentially selling used equipment as new, without warning. What showed up was a splitter that had been left out in the sun and rain for god only knows how long, with rust and pitting evident on the metal and plastic parts.
