What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise this tool for safely replacing bulbs in high or hard-to-reach fixtures without ladders, especially in vaulted ceilings, stairwells, and ceiling fans. Most report strong satisfaction and would recommend it. However, a notable group experiences grip reliability issues—the bulb holder unscrews, suction cups detach prematurely, or grippers slip on plastic bulbs, prompting some to add modifications like duct tape. While attachments like the broken bulb remover are appreciated, inconsistent performance remains a significant concern for roughly one-fifth of reviewers.

Would RecommendIt's very handy....and just what I needed
Completely useless junk
Would RecommendBought this to change bulbs in a vaulted ceiling. Large bulb attachment is cheaply made: prongs bend, rubber grips break off. After changing 2 bulbs, the prongs bent and could no longer fit into recesses in the ceiling. The suction cup attachment is even more useless. Sticks to glass but turns on the glass instead of turning the bulb. Useless product that caused twice as many problems as it helped fix.
You Light Up My LIfe!
Would RecommendThe Utilitech light bulb changer was incredibly easy to use. I used the suction cup tip to remove and replace my current bulb. I love this product!
Convenience
Convenience. I can reach the ceiling lights in my cathedral ceiling without having to bring in a ladder. Much safer..
Great buy!
Would RecommendJust bought this today and worked great to change a light bulb in the garage. Was a bit concerned due to all the bad reviews, but worked great for me. Took all of 3 minutes to change the bulb with no problems that were related in the low reviews. Looking forward to using the cleaning tool.
Doesn't work as advertised
Would Not RecommendVERY cheaply made... VERY poorly written instructions. Also, wouldn't release the bulb from a recessed light fixture when installing a new bulb. Actually started to pull the light fixture out of the ceiling when trying to install the new bulb. Not only ineffective, but potentially damaging.
Good for installing, not so good for removing
I needed one of these quickly so I picked one up at Lowes. Inexpensive enough for my needs and it won't be used that often. Pros: lots of attachments and supports multiple bulb types, readily in stock and available, low cost. Cons: poor design and poor packaging. I kept having issues with removing a bulb. Either the handle would unlock or the bulb head would unscrew from the end of the pole. It could be operator error, but this isn't rocket science. All of the parts at the business end are pl...
Handy to have one on hand!
Would RecommendI was exactly as described. The only issue is that it's almost impossible to change 'hi-hat' bulbs since the capture tool interfers with the trim in the hi-hat.
Hangs up on can lights
Would Not RecommendPurchased this to change about a dozen floodlight bulbs in canisters. Half of the time the prongs at the distal end of this tool got hung up on the flange in the canister as I tried to remove the tool after installing the new lightbulb. Had to brave the ladder or try to pry it loose with a broomstick. Super frustrating, would not recommend.
Worked flawlesley .
Just as described will be shopping more frequently with lowes .
Bought this for recessed lights in kitchen. Large fitting will not fit completely around light (too small).
Poor suction cup design
Worked well on a couple of recessed bulbs that had room for the basket attachment. We have another light up high that if very flush with the fixture surround and had to use the suction attachment. Unfortunately if the bulb is a bit tight, the suction cup becomes unthreaded from the attachment before the bulb started to twist off. They should have used a better solution to affix the suction cup to the attachment
The Attachment Unscrews Instead
Would Not RecommendWhoever was the genius that thought up this device didn't realize that when you are trying to make a tool that unscrews things that having an attachment head that, itself, unscrews is a very bad idea. I have very high lights and have to stand at the top of my stairs to even attempt to reach with this tool, and all that happens is the tool's attachment unscrews. There is a tightener on the end, but it doesn't work in any way. What a useless tool. Get another tool somewhere else.
no tension for unscrewing
Would Not Recommendthe pole unscrews and loosens instead of the bulb. basically an exercise in futility. I would recommend spending the $29 on rocks to kick down the driveway.
Great tool for changing light bulbs in high places
Would RecommendThis light bulb changer worked like a charm to change our lightbulbs without needing a ladder.
Useful Item
Would RecommendUseful for all the overhead recessed lights I have in my new house. Not ideal for broken CFL lights but gets the job done for everything else.
Kinda useless, needs improvement
Would Not RecommendThe twist and lock pole is the problem. The twist to unlock is in the same direction as unscrewing a light bulb. So, as you try to remove a bulb any resistance loosens the pole and the light bulb stays. It needs a locking mechanism that doesn't rely on twisting the pole. I used Gorilla tape to keep the pole from twisting. Not worth the $20 or so. I have 6 lights, so I'll use this exactly 6 times.
