Would RecommendMy wife gave me a surprise 70th birthday party in June. I have NEVER owned a riding lawn mower. Our sons surprised me with a Troy-Bilt riding lawn mower. What used to take me 2 days now only takes me 30 minutes! I swell up with tears every time I get on it. Being 70 years old, it was getting harder on me to mow our lawn. My wife would feel so sorry for me and almost cry whenever I came in from mowing. I have only had it since June of this year and it is the best piece of equipment I have ever ow...

Excellent Mower for the price
Would RecommendI like the overall build and the quality of the unit, but the mower height leaves something to be desired, hence my 3 star rating. Even though I use it at the highest setting, it cuts my grass way too short. if I had another 1/2 up of adjustment, it would be perfect. Good mower though and I am getting good use out of it.

too narrow of stance
Would Not Recommendcannot mow in reverse, very bad idea. the mower is actually to fast. Even the slightest incline, feels like it would tip over, so up and down hills is a must. The lever to engage the mower blades could be a little longer. Knowing what I know now I probably would not purchase this model of lawn tractor, Something that is wider track. I can say on level ground it does a good job of mowing. In high gear it is way too fast, so I mow in first gear.

A Noble Review of TB42
Would RecommendI've only owned this lawn tractor for 2 months but to date can state that I'm impressed and very pleased with my selection. Having recently retired from 28 years of Quality Assurance/Engineering, I may be more critical than the typical owner. This is my first experience with Troy-Built Product. The TB42 is very comfortable and relatively easy to maneuver and use. I haven't had occasion to change belts, remove deck, change blades or those more detailed maintenance actions. I do have one concern r...

My New Pony
Would RecommendI purchased my Troy-Bilt riding mower to replace one that lasted for 10+ years and look forward to at least that much time for this one. My only concern initially was cutting blade height but this will apparently take some getting used to. I like the machine very much, as I do with my other Troy-Bilt products.

Good inexpensive mower
Would RecommendI wish I had spent the extra money for hydrastat transmission. Shift on the go is nice, but hydrastat is better

Great mower!
Would RecommendGreat mower right from the start. All I had to do was add gas and go. My yard is slightly hilly with lots of trees. The mower does great with the blade raised a little high to avoid roots sticking out of the ground. Love the deck cleaning attachment and the safety check where you can't go in reverse with the blade running. Took a little while to learn to disengage the blade before going in reverse but finally have it down now. Love my new mower!

Very good mower.
Mower runs good with the large 42" cut. Only negative thing you will need earplugs.

Excellent Little Mower
It preforms as advertised, However, I really wish it had deck leveling wheels. When I turn too sharply it has a tendency to cut unevenly...otherwise I am very pleased with my Pony. It rides a little firmer than my old mower did.

Nice Mower
A nice mower at an affordable price. I have mowed my yard eight times with this mower and I appreciate the good job it does. However, for those of us that have operated a hydro-stat mower with the foot control there is a learning curve with this mower which has a hand controlled hydro-stat. Overall it is a very nice mower and the hydro-stat is very smooth and responsive.

Good mower
To start, I've recently had to retire due to congestive heart failure and I needed a riding mower since my health no longer allows me to push a mower over the 1/4 acre I needed mowing. Thus, I bought the Troy-built Pony. I had no need for a large tractor. I just needed something that could keep the yard looking good, which isn't easy since my yard slopes, and there are a lots of trees and bushes - not to mention uneven ground. Using the mower in a 1 or 2 height setting is out of the questi...

Worth the Price
Delivery was 5 stars. Off the flatbed and ready to start after gas added. The twin-bagger was assembled wrong, but I reassembled it correctly without much trouble. The tube for the cuttings clogs up occasionally and has to be disassembled. The vibration when the blade is deployed is annoying, but does not affect the overall performance. I've used it for a month with no problems. Well worth the money, and it should give me several years of service. I'll write another review at the end of the yea...

pony
We bought one a couple of months ago after our property was bush-hogged. It's great.

Great Mower
It is a good all around mower that takes little effort to use. It does not seem to ride as smooth as my old one. Perhaps because the seat sits higher/firmer and is not broken in yet.

Needs upgrade
As a basic lawn mower it fits the bill. However this mower needs anti-scalping wheels for the deck. If your lawn is uneven as mine is you will find spots where the mower deck/blades have left almost bare spots with no grass left. Which leads to another problem. I can not find a sweet spot for the mower deck. At one setting the grass is left too high(like it was never cut) and if I lower the deck to the next setting it is too low and results in the lawn getting scalped.

A Big Time Saver
Being new to riding lawn mowers I was pleased to discover that when I used to take an hour to cut the grass it now takes only 20 minutes. Also being new to riding lawn tractors I didn't realize the need for a tight turning radius. I can still get it done but it takes a little more planning.
