What Customers Are Saying

The primer provides excellent coverage and sealing ability, even on difficult surfaces. It dries quickly and creates a smooth, even base for the topcoat paint. The product works well on a variety of surfaces and is useful for preparing surfaces before painting. Some minor downsides include a strong odor during application and the need to sand after it dries for a completely smooth finish.

The best product for torn drywall

Would Recommend

Have you ever tried to repair drywall by mudding areas where the paper on the drywall has torn, only to have it blister? The best solution is to use this product as a sealer before applying drywall mud. However, preparation is a must! Loose edges must be carefully removed and any loose paper must be removed/gently sanded away. This is very time consuming, but it's far less expensive than replacing a lot of drywall. This method is ideal, and cheaper, when you remove all of the wood paneling from...

Rather thin consistency

The paint is not as thick as I had hoped, therefore it is going to take several coats. I hope is it stops bleed through my painting.

Primer's thin/covers well/could be good in sprayer

Would Recommend

We decided to select this product as we had some painting to do. We had heard of this product but had not used it. When we were preparing to use this product, we thought it was rather thin, and we expected needing at least two coats to cover the walls. Reality is we didn't! One coat worked just fine! Covered well and saved a lot of time. This primer can drip a little, but catching with a brush or roller works fine. It dries quite quickly so you can start painting with your final color pretty qui...

Great product to cover what you don’t want seen!

This primer worked great to cover up stains from water damage. Most of the stains were covered with one coat and at most two coats. The primer was smooth to paint and covered the area quickly.

Worth every penny!

This is by far, the best primer I have found when renovating houses. I am currently renovating a home that was trashed by the previous tenants. The property manager said it was smelled worse than any property she has seen. My wife couldn't stand to go inside, the smell was so bad. I ripped up the carpet and padding and the plywood subfloor was soaked in unidentified goo…through the whole house. I washed and scrubbed the plywood on the floors to get rid of the grime and it still smelled rea...

This primer provides great coverage. Before you paint, it is really important to have a great part before you paint so this one is top-notch. We had some stains on the ceiling that were covered completely by using this primer. Highly recommend.

Zinsser BIN Shellac Primer Review I’ve been using Zinsser BIN for kitchen cabinets and stubborn drywall stains—and it consistently outperforms other primers. Here’s why: Performance & Coverage Exceptional Sealant: The shellac-based formula effectively stops sap and tannin bleed-through on raw wood, ensuring a flawless topcoat every time. Ultra-Thin Consistency: BIN’s low viscosity levels out beautifully when sprayed, filling pores and minor surface cracks without any drippy buildup. Applic...

Really makes the room smell better

Would Recommend

This room smelled really bad considering it was kinda a place where we put a dog or two when company came. We changed things around and decided to make it a spare bedroom. Used this primer specifically because it mentioned that it seals away odors. Upon opening the can i noticed that it was a touch on the thinner side but upon application it proved to be of no problem. Primer went on smooth and covered great and didnt drip as much as i through partially because i used a good brush and roller. I ...

Used on ceiling to block an old water stain.

An old leak in the roof left a stain, I used BEHR ceiling paint with blocker and you could still see the stain. Tried Zinsser primer on the stain, the primer is not a thick paint, its thin rolls on easy. Left a shiny coat after dried. This made it easy to find the spots I missed when applying the ceiling paint/

Always my top choice

Would Recommend

I will always default to BIN shellac primer. It goes on so well, with rollers and with a sprayer, and I’ve never had an issue with it peeling off laminate. I used it to install bookshelves in my library and after two years of wear and tear there are no spots where the paint is chipping. We also didn’t sand any of the bookshelves because we trust this product so much. To be fair, we don’t have kids and our pets don’t destroy things, so maybe sand and use a top coat if you’re worried about that. I...
