What Customers Are Saying

The primer provides excellent coverage and sealing ability, even on difficult surfaces. It dries quickly and creates a smooth, even base for the topcoat paint. The product works well on a variety of surfaces and is useful for preparing surfaces before painting. Some minor downsides include a strong odor during application and the need to sand after it dries for a completely smooth finish.

Fresh

Always fresh cans because of quicker turnover than the paint stores.

This stuff is great!

Covers knots, and they never come back! I've used B.I.N. for years and have had outstanding results painting over knotty pine and/or cedar knots. One coat only covering the knots, then two more coats on the entire surface. Wha-la, no more knots, and they won't bleed through even after many years! This stuff stinks though. I always wear a respirator.

Coverage rating

Okay, so I thought I would give this a try. I tried 2 different kinds, and let's say the most expensive 1 out of the 2. That is what actually did the job. The coverage was good but still not as good as it proclaims to be. It did fill in some of the cracks and knots in the wood as well as cover some of the stains. I goal here was to only use 1 coat. I'm sure if you do 2 coats, then it would fill everything at that point

This product really works. It covers shellac surfaces in one coat and cleans up with ammonia.

Excellent for sealing torn Sheetrock paper

Would Recommend

I used BIN Shellac Primer to seal areas of torn Sheetrock paper after removing stubborn wallpaper. The product goes on thin to soak into the paper and bind the pulp fibers tightly. After a couple of thin coats of USG EasySand setting joint compound over the primed paper, the repair is invisible, with no raised paper fibers showing through the final repair. Highly recommended for this purpose. Even a quart is very expensive so I feel it’s a tradeoff between quality and expense. I hate redoing a j...

Great primer.

This stuff covers really well. I painted an extremely weathered outdoor wooden swing and it was the perfect base for the top coat of yellow paint. It really gives a solid base for your paint.

Excellent results

Would Recommend

Used to seal subflooring of an older home owned by a hoarder that had pet stains and general musty odor. The results were excellent. Moderate thickness, which made use with 18 inch roller very easy. I needed two coats for particleboard subfloor and a concrete slab which I expected. Coverage is good and dries very fast (indoor use at about 68 degrees). Vapors are strong - use a proper respirator with windows open. Excellent results.

You should be in a well ventilated area.

What I love about this product is that it does exactly what it says. It covers with the first coat with or without sanding whatever furniture your priming.

Works adequately

Would Recommend

I found it to be thin viscosity. It took two coats to cover cabinets. We will see how it works over time.

Great for wood

Would Recommend

Great for wood because when sanded turns to powder unlike latex primer which rolls up into little balls. Of course this is an excellent stain blocking primer.

It’s old school and a great “Go to” for wood

Would Not Recommend

We use it for the alternative to lacquer when painting kitchen cabinets and furniture. It dries fast and stops bleed through. It also is a product that will go over / under water, oil, or lacquer based products. So it’s worry free when you may not know what the previous owner may have used to paint before you .
