We modified the connection a bit by using the Reliance 30-Amp Power Inlet Box on the outside of the house below the house breaker box (raised ranch house breaker box is not in the garage). Would RecommendPlease don't put the lives of the guys that are trying to restore power at risk. So many people say "As long as I turn the main off they won't get hurt". God forbid you forget or someone else in your family not realize what you have done, flip the main back on, and you send power back down the line. Reliance switch - great kit
Would RecommendI got this after the hurricane hit. I was tired of the extension cords all over, and I did not want to back-feed. The risk all of the safety issues related to that with overloading the generator or getting someone shocked where just to high. I bought this transfer switch, had it installed in a couple of hours and it works great.

Easy to use tranfer switch

Would RecommendI bought this switch about two years ago. It's not to hard to install if you're handy. We use ours to power the furnace, refrigerator, sump pump and three lighting circuits. There is no need for extension cords running all over the house. And the furnace could not be powered with extension cords since it doesn't have a plug. Just plan this project out in advance. Its much harder to do if you wait until you need it.
