operating temp sensor is awful

I had a Generac RS5500 that was stolen and I really liked it. I purchased a new GP6500 to replace it and it is awful during the day. When the temp outside reaches 90 degrees this generator shuts down!!! It has to constantly be watched until the evening when the sun is not shining on it. This is the craziest thing i've ever seen. How is someone supposed to work with a generator that is constantly shutting down during the day. I appreciate the technology but this is a bad purchase for any one work...

Wanting a generator for years

Being a new home owner I always thought about power going out. Well power went out! Went to local hardware store many different options I’ve heard from other people generac was top of the line a little pricey but well worth it. Will recommend to anyone I know

Generac 6500 CO works, but needs option to bypass CO sensor

I have used a Generac generator ( XL4500 ) for over 20 years and have been very happy. I purchased your new 6500 and will use the old generator as backup. Your 6500 starts easily, works well, and handles my power loads very well. The generator uses a bit more fuel than I thought it should. Like all the features it offers

Had a hurricane coming our way so decided to purchase a generac because of its reputation. Set it all up and tested it out, but never used it because the storm turned and headed up the coast. We at least have comfort knowing we are covered if another storm heads our way, which is likely because we live in Florida.

Quiet and a complete work horse this product is absolutely amazing

This product was easy to start and operate

Since I'm new with this product, I can not give you in-depth comments (purchased 8/31/19); however, it was great when it started and idled and then cruised,very smooth and not very noisy. Expect many years of performance with it. jfb

Very dependable piece of equipment

Easy to start, very strong and it has a nice look to it.

Quality out of the box, one pull start, only used 30 minutes as first start up trial.

Unit packaging was quality, instructions and assembly of wheels to frame and feet as well as handle was simple. Manual was easy to read, follow for warnings and pre-start up instructions. Unit started on first pull, expected maybe two just to get gas through system. Ran for about half hour to give it a bit of a break-in. Amazing craftsmanship

This will be my second generac generator I have purchased and both of them started right out of the box with the first soft pull. I let them run for a bit and then load tested them with no issues. Everything on this generator is solid stable and reliable . Hats off to the design team, and assembly workers at the manufacturing plant.

Awful, do not buy with the COSense

We have extended a tailpipe 5 feet up from generator exhaust, it still senses the Co2 and shuts off, no help from Generac other than taking it to a mechanic and I know the problem is the sensor. This has only been started to test, sadly, we were past the 90 days to get a full refund, we bought in case of a storm related power outage. Very disappointed. This generator did a great job.

We were without power for 4 days. My sister is on electric oxygen and has a portable oxygen that needed to be charged. We traveled over an hour to find this generator. We also needed to have power for our refrigerator to keep our $600 in groceries from being ruined. I would like to know if it could be back fed to my house but for the moment it ran for 15 hours on one tank of fuel. Our 4 days on generator sure eased our stress for not having power.

Reliable with a large tank

We lost power at home and had to buy one of these in an emergency for our fridge and freezer. It seems to work well. The only issue is that it says that it should not be left in the rain, but yet it has a CO sensor. We had to figure out a good ventilation situation in the garage to make it work, but it would be great if they could be left outside in rain storms. Oh well... Next design?

Easy Assembly, up and running Quickly

Just brought this Generator, easy to assemble and got it connected up as a back to my home in less than three hours. Tested it out and runs everything we need to have powered up during a power loss. Good value for the money

Return buyer

I have owned 4 Generac portable generators, this last one has a CO sensor, and I don't like it. If the wind blows even a small amount of exhaust towards the sensor it shuts off while outside! I will be calling tech support to see what to do about this problem. Otherwise I love this generator.

Indestructible!!!

I’ve only got about 10 or 12 hours on my 6500 but I am amazed at how it performs after surviving two floods in my garage!!! Both times the water got high enough to fill the muffler and reached the electrical outlets. Both times I drained the water out, checked the carburetor and changed the oil to be safe. It fired up, steamed out the remaining bit of water in the muffler and ran as though nothing had happened. I was sure I was going to have to spend a lot of money to get it up and running ag...

Great generator CO sense is the problem for me

Great generator but the CO sence light keeps making my generate cut off in a wide open field when I'm camping took to lowes twice to get checked but the keep telling they cant find anything wrong can anyone tell me what I can do about this

Great Product, lives up to its reputation.

I have used Generac products for years during my career. In all cases my experience was positive. Recently becoming victim to a severe storm at my lake house, I found myself needing back up power. I went online to several retailers and found Generac at a somewhat near store. I purchased the unit and can say it performed as expected, zero issues. Assembly was simple, start up effortless. Ran without issue until power restored.

Generac GP 6500 series generator

This is a very good product, easy to put into use, and I can effectively use it to run everything I need in an emergency. starts easy even though it doesn't have an electric starter. I would by it again. We live in an area where storms take out power frequently. The transfer switch was easy to install as well.
