Built to fail

This is my second unit. I like a trash compactor but this unit has a construction flaw. After a short period of time the bolts on the foot pedal wear thru the thin metal barrier. I needed to weld a washer to the existing metal for a fix. Unfortunately there are not a lot of options for trash compactors

Poor design and quality

This is an inferior model to the one I had for 25 years. Compaction is no where near the old one. There are no bags that fit this. The only way to activate this is by foot control, which will not last very long. Foot pedal is plastic. Not a good design

Avoid hands free models

Foot pedal is basically working inconsistently from either design or use either of which is unacceptable. Will be ordering a model that not hands free as this was advertised. So disappointed.

Poor Quality

The first one lasted less than 3 years. Poor compunction and very loud. Does NOT have solid pack feature. I only bought another one because the extended warranty replaced it for the same money but I had to pay the difference plus delivery and installation. I will never have another one from GE. 👎

Great, but could use a handle

Great compactor in all respects but one. It could use a handle.

It’s okay

I really hate the hidden controls and you cannot stop the compactor with the plunger down to make sure things stay compacted. Right now bottles pop right back into shape. And the plunger does not seem to go down as far as other models do.

No features

The drawer doesn't open all the way with the foot pedal. Have to use hands to open and close and without a handle there are constant finger prints on appliance. poor design. If I could give this a zero I would have. Think I'm done with GE products. seems they skip the R&D. Put a high price on it . Overpriced piece of junk.

design flaw

bought this unit to replace the previous one after the motor died. the new unit worked great until I noticed the foot pedal on the drawer hanging lose! upon further inspection I discovered the metal cutout the pedestal screwed into broke off! So basically, the while unit is affected because of a very small piece of metal, Sad :(

Average compactor

This compactor replaced our 15 year old compactor that finally died. Same model and operation. Seems noisier than old one but OK.

All Homes Need A Compactor

Compactor works perfectly. Every home should come equipped with one! I am however concerned about the durability of the foot pedal assembly. Installed less than 30 days ago and it is already difficult to open at times. I am seeing the potential of replacement down the road.

No drawer handle

I've only had this a few day's so I cannot really give a good review. So far it does what it's supposed to do, Very easy to install My only complaint is that there is no drawer handle, but I knew this when ordering. I just used to the door handle from my old compactor. I'll get used to it.

compactor fit great.

I was sweating the install because of stone floor installation after the original 16 or old compactor needed replacement. All was good this compact just fir and was exactly on size, whew. Good deal HE.

Obvious Design Flaw, Short Lifespan

I'm here with others to say my appliance is barely 3 years old and has been broken already for months, the result of the metal failing and detachment of the foot pedal. We toed that pedal back on for months and it still worked, but now the OTHER side has failed. No way will I buy a GE appliance ever again, as it's obvious the company has to know about this problem yet hasn't corrected it. I'm buying the Whirlpool. I thought perhaps I could just buy the whole door unit, but that's over $500 and d...

Order was delivered on time. Opened box but discovered part of the item was not included.

Great Upgrade

Capacity

Trash compactor

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] GE is quickly becoming one of my least favorite brands of product to buy. This trash compactor does not come with a press and hold option and it is very cheaply made and poorly designed. There is a foot pedal that operates everything that is plastic. And insanely that is not even the failure point. The failure point is the thin metal that it connects to that has failed after less than a year of use.

Excellent product and fine installation

The new bags fit much better than the older model's paper bags, and the mechanism for starting the compactor is less problematic and easier to use, compared to the older model. The 2 men who installed the compactor were very efficient.
